"American University offers a range of Arts and Science programs that are also politically focused. It is located in Washington DC and has a lot of amenities available to its students. There are also a variety of programs that support student life and school spirit."

"The quality of the education offered at the University of Puerto Rico is excellent. The university is divided in 11 campuses, with each campus having a stronger academic program than the others. For example if you're interested in medicine, the Rio Piedras campus would be the best choice, if you're interested in Hotel management, then the Carolina campus would be best."

"I attended the Washington College of Law at American University from 2005-2008 to obtain my Juris Doctor. The WCL curriculum put a strong emphasis on research and writing, with a two-semester comprehensive program that I thoroughly appreciated and has served me well in my profession (especially given that many colleagues went to schools where there was less emphasis on this part, and thus a critical component of their legal training was lacking). Unfortunately, I think almost all of my favorite professors, with a handful of exceptions, have moved on to other schools/positions/careers, so I cannot speak to much of the current faculty. I can say that the school recently had the grand opening of its new law building, which has expanded facilities and lots of resources for law students, and will be a definite bonus for anyone attending in the future."

"American University offered a highly specialized degree utilizing experienced professors that yielded a strong graduate program. The campus was small but beautiful and ran free AU shuttles to various points around town making getting to and leaving campus a breeze. Overall the experience was phenomenal and I would highly recommend it."

"My first semester my classes were a joke. I didn't feel like I learned anything of value from them. This semester my classes seem more relevant and useful to the practice of teaching. It is a highly ranked program Ijust dont care for the fluffy understanding of teaching. As if all students come prepared for the next grade."

"All of my professors are experts in the field and have diverse research interests. Also, they have designated offices hours and are always willing to advise students. There are many resources available for professional development and networking opportunities. The workload is manageable, even for working graduate students. The class sizes are very small, which works well for in-class discussions. I wish the program was a little more diverse. Thankfully, the School of International Service has launched various initiatives to increase the diversity of the program. Also, Washington D.C. is very expensive, therefore rent is very high. However the quality of the program makes it all worth it."

"The only areas of concern stem from the affordability, faculty access, and financial aid. The sector of International Affairs does not offer a lot of financial aid opportunities; and that isn't so much as a negative but just a consideration for prospective students. There are a lot of scholarships outside of American University to look at as well as part time jobs on campus to help fund your life; but scholarships themselves are few and far between. The access to faculty is fine, but it is hit or miss depending on what professor you have. Many professors are working professionals in other areas. It come with an amazing learning atmosphere, at some cost. Not to say they just look at their adjunct position as a part time job, but rather, they do have a large set of responsibilities outside of the classroom. Knowing this make, take any time to have one on ones with them as a blessing; it means they really want like you and care. If it doesn't happen, its because they are spread thin as it is (don't take it personally) Living affordability, again, it a concern because of where you are...DC...its expensive and, while doable, needs you to have a plan going into it. The pros, however, vastly outweigh any of the cons. In every other category, there is no way that, is utilized to even a minor degree, you won't be able to gain real substance from you learning experience and find a place to use it once graduation comes. The workload is manageable, student diversity allows you to learn without knowing it, the alumni network is dedicated and are highly invested in wanting young professionals to succeed (and be the cause of that), and the quality of education is top notch. It's what you would expect when going for an advanced degree within the nation's capital."

"The internship opportunities are great, but the students on campus are not incredibly friendly and the administration does nothing to lower the total cost of tuition/room/board. It's a incredibly expensive education. You would be better off going to a state school and coming to DC for the summer internships."

"My college and graduate education have empowered me to become the person I want to be, and have given me the tools to succeed in my chosen profession. That said, my education at private colleges and universities came at a great cost (I am nearly a quarter-million dollars in debt), and I am still facing difficulty entering the job market as a recent graduate. I think that a college education is important to succeed, but that the current system of student loans and unending debt has got to change. For what I owe in student debt, I could own two houses in the town where I grew up, but instead I have a great education and a great amount of stress and uncertainty in my life."

"American University (AU) isa great place to learn. but you must be proactive, advocate for yourself and make sure to build a challenging and well balanced course load, take advantage of internships, study abroad, and definitely the honors program and capstone projects."

"I enjoyed my experience at American. I loved that it had a real college while being situated in the city. The academic level of the classes were a good match for me, and I liked that the classes weren't too big for me to form a relationship with professors. There is kind of a large presence of Greek life on the campus, which I was surprised by, but I certainly didn't have any trouble finding friends not involved in Greek life. One piece of advice--it doesn't matter how prestigious a reputation a college has...it matters much more if its a good fit for YOU."

"The pros of the program is that it connects you to a wide network of potential employees and teammates. A con is that you may not be able to choose a specific teacher that you may want for a specific class."
