"The Human Services major requires three, 120 hour internships as an undergraduate. This major and internships have allowed me to obtain work experience, leaderships skills, and cultural sensitivity awareness. Through very specific classes such as Child Abuse, Proposal Writing, Theories and Techniques of Counseling, Intimate Partner Violence, and Case Management, I have been highly prepared for my counseling Masters Program, where as some of my other classmates that majored in other areas are struggling. I completed my first internship with Fullerton Colleges Educational Partnerships and Outreach office and I continued with the program for my second internship, and was hired on until the end of the school year. At this placement, I have been able to network with both high school and community college counselors and compare the responsibilities they hold at each level. When visiting local high schools, I was able to relate to many of the junior and senior students who were struggling about their decisions on higher education. I was the student advocate for Magnolia High School and many of the students I worked with were going to be first generation college students. Many were discouraged about attending college because of the lack of support or knowledge about higher education in their home life. It has been rewarding knowing I have been able to help them push past their fears and make the best decision for themselves whether it is applying to a university, community college, or exploring Career Education programs. My final internship was within the Health and Human Development Department at CSUF as a group facilitator for the Character and Conflict course. My role was to facilitate weekly groups on topics such as: Death and Dying, Loneliness, Love and Relationships, and Self-identity by utilizing different therapy techniques to help the group members process. I would oversee conflict between group members and help them handle it in a healthy manner. Prior to this internship, I was enrolled in this course (a requirement for the degree) as a student (group member) and it helped me grow in a very unique way that other college classes would normally not provide. I had already had been to therapy, but for some of my peers, they were able to share experiences, emotions, and trauma in a safe place to be processed and addressed before going into the helping field."

"CSUF is a fantastic university! I loved the environment both academically and physical aspect of the campus. CSUF has an amazing community! The program I was in was Liberal Studies. All the professors had great knowledge about the specific topics. The professors gave great resources outside of class to research more into a certain topic as well."

"I graduated with a B.A. and a B.S at California State University of Fullerton (CSUF). I enjoyed my five years at Fullerton. I was a double major, majoring in Child and Adolescent Development and Communicative Disorders. The professors for CHAD are extremely helpful, they are so nice you have support through the whole college of teachers, the Comm department was a bit more strict and hard. The master's program is highly competitive and it takes years to get into that program. I still haven't been able to get admitted to a masters program for Communicative Disorders. Overall my experience was great, made new friends I learned plenty of new things and they also have fun extracurricular classes to relive the stress."

"I truly enjoyed my experience at CSUF. Getting my undergrad there was more affordable than going to a private university. Most of my professors were excellent and truly cared about their students. I gained so much knowledge that help me in the field and currently in grad school. I was able to be a teacher's assistant and through this I learned how much I enjoyed teaching. Also, the psychology program requires you have an internship, which I think was the best experience. Especially since this was one of things that helped me find a job after I graduated. If I did not have that experience in the field, I think it would have been even more challenging to find a job. The only thing I wish I would have known is that with a psycholgy undergrad, it is hard to find a job that pays a liveable wage. I enjoyed my classes and everything I learned, but now in hindsight I wish I would have had a class that informed me that bascially I had to get a master's degree to get a job that I truly enjoyed and that paid well. Also, I wish I would have known about the details of grad school so I could have gone striaght into a grad program verses talking a year off. Overall, I am happy with my CSUF experience and am grateful for everything I learned from my undergrad."

  • Degree: Biology
"California State University Fullerton was not the best school, at least for the degree I received for biological sciences. The graduation rate for my major was 43 percent, which means that 59 percent of the class failed or dropped out. The teachers went out of their way to make sure that people did not do well and it felt like I had to teach myself the material. I feel like CSUF is more of a school for communications and business versus biology and people should look to a different school if they want to major in the sciences. The equipment and the materials they use for science majors are outdated and the school does not invest a lot of time in science majors."

"I feel the Music program at Cal State Fullerton was amazing. I got to perform with the choir onstage. My favorite performance was with the advanced choir at the Hollywood Bowl with John Williams conducting us. The teachers were very friendly and always willing to help you. The campus is large and has grown a lot since I was last there. They now offer not only on campus but online classes as well. Some of my favorite memories were spent working on my own compositions. I really enjoyed being able to create my own music and sharing it with the whole class. You will be given piano lessons and learn music theory. If you think you know everything about music you are mistaken. You will be learning so much more than you ever thought there was. There are many different classes Music history, music theory, musicianship, and even film scores. If you are a voice major like me, you will be also learning the different dialects and how the different languages are suppose to be pronounced while singing."

  • Degree: Communications (Public Relations)
"The communications program at CSUF was amazing in the way that they provide students with an array of assignments and curriculum to truly prepare them for careers within this field post graduation. CSUF professors are eager to help facilitate a learning environment, and mentor students to accomplish their goals. The program requires that students venture off into the field and complete a semester of internship hours, which truly provided the best experience for what to expect after graduation. Through this, I was able to get both interview and work experience with three different companies, which made me a more marketable candidate during my job search upon graduation."

"I graduated August 2018 with a Bachelors of Sociology through the University Extended Education program (Cohort 5). I loved that school, loved the professors, and value the education I got there. My advisors were helpful from the start even though I accepted my admission late. Even though they start you at 2 classes a semester, they will bump you up to more if you can demonstrate you can take it. Go TITANS!"

"This institution was amazing and so helpful. The staff that I was surrounded by helped any way they could and provided information beyond they scope of practice. Any questions posed about possible jobs or other schools, the instructors were honest and also helped find career resources. Many instructors allowed for extended office hours and provided additional help to make sure the students were proficient in the material."

  • Degree: Fine Arts
"California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) provided a very well-rounded general education program as well as an extremely robust specialized degree program that has greatly benefited me in my career. In the general education courses, I was able to hone skills in effective writing, time management, and gleaning insights about the breadth of fields of study available to students. I participated in the University Honors Program, which offered exceptional resources that benefited my education, including but not limited to priority registration and specialized required coursework. In my chosen degree path in the arts, I found an environment where I could gain technical skill, receive valuable critique, and work directly with insightful professional leaders. The educators on staff are all seasoned professionals with years of real-life experience to lead their classes with. The facilities at CSUF are all clean, well maintained, and easy to access. The library is an excellent resource for all sorts of materials as well as quiet study areas and meeting rooms. All staff is extremely communicative and accessible for any need. Additionally, the academic advisement team is deeply knowledgeable and excited to help students achieve their academic goals. Finally, the alumni association has proven to be a very helpful resource beyond graduation. I felt that my overall experience at CSUF not only prepared me for my future professional and academic career but bolstered my social relationships and provided me with a network of fine people whom I hope to stay connected with for years to come. I would recommend CSUF to anyone seeking an undergraduate degree."

"California State University, Fullerton has a lot of opportunity, but you have to work to obtain them. I personally thought the Communications classes were a bit outdated. Many of the teachers double as professors, so they are not always accessible. The administrative staff is very grumpy and unhelpful."

"This school is great. I love it's diversity in that it offers a lot of online and on campus classes. I wish it was quarter instead of semester since semesters are very long. It's always good to research on professors before you take their classes. Overall I had a great experience with the faculty and the classes. #Titanforlife"

"The Master of Social Work program at Cal State Fullerton has been a rigorous yet wonderful program. So far, it has provided me with a diverse experience where I was able to work with multiple populations and with individuals from all walks of life. During my first year, I was able to intern for the county and provide mental health services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. It has been my career goal to work as a medical social worker in a hospital setting, and I have been granted that opportunity for my second-year internship here at Cal State Fullerton!"

"Being seen as a student, not a number. This is the reason I chose the MSHE program at CSUF over other schools. As I met with the directors, faculty and alumni of the program, I recognized that there was a care and emphasis on my development personally and as a professional. I absolutely feel supported and like the staff are excited for me to enter the profession of student affairs."

The professors and staff are extremely helpful as they always do their best to meet the needs of all students. Attending CSUF was an overall great experience, especially because of the on-campus organizations and unity one creates by being part of something bigger."
