  • Degree: Mechanical Engineering
"Avoid the mechanical engineering technology department like the plague. It's still a little challenging and you learn a lot, however, the degree is essentially useless and they don't tell you that while your in. Either go for real engineering or just get a trade certification. I'm going back for a whole second bachelors because in actual mechanical engineering after I'm done, so learn from my mistakes. While I could write 50,000 words about how much I hate this department, I will say since it's the short bus version of engineering, they take it slow and you actually learn it really well. I was helping systems engineering students with their homework sometimes, because their professors teach so fast they can't retain the material. Also, if you have a hard time deciphering accents you'll definitely have a hard time, because basically every teacher is from another country."

"UALR was a very good college with professors very qualified in the fields they taught. They expected much from their students and required work and commitment from them. Each professor was different in how they ran their class, but each was available, whenever needed. If an assignment was done well, they would let you know. The classes are not too big, so that you feel comfortable speaking. I would recommend this school to anyone."

"I took all my strength to make it through school, I was supported by the staff, the departments, the professor's and the instructors. I am able to utilize my education to better my profession, I took what I learned with me, I was respected by the university and it's culture and environment. I made it because the staff encouraged, inspired and empowered me to believe in myself. Thank you UALR..!!"

"The Master's of Journalism degree allows you a more in-depth study of the field of Journalism. You can further your skills in research, writing and production; depending upon your journalism field. Professors are helpful and informative in and out of the classroom and many have or do work in the field"

"UALR is a great school. I am pursuing my Master's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on English and History. I graduated with my Bachelor's in 2015, and got a job at National Park College in Hot Springs an the Career Services Center 6 months after graduation. I hope to be a college English teacher, and teachers and admissions faculty are great with helping students pursue their goals. The campus is also an ultimate place to meet new friends. I recommend this college and degree program for future students all over. Thank You."

"I was eager to start at UALR because of the Interdisciplinary Studies degree they offered. I was not disappointed. They require two classes to help you understand this degree. This was extremely beneficial for me. It helped me see how my area of concentrations could work together. These courses also greatly improved my critical thinking skills. The classes, advisors, and teachers made it well worth the time and effort."

"The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) is a good choice for traditional and non-traditional students alike. The campus offers a lot of diversity and opportunities to learn about other cultures thanks to the fairly large population of students from other countries. While there is campus housing, UALR is also a good option for students choosing to commute. It is in the heart of Little Rock, the capital city of Arkansas. It's not a far drive to acquire basic needs or enjoy a good meal at any number of local or chain restaurants. There are several opportunities for outdoor activities nearby if you enjoy hiking, cycling, or running. There are also many campus organizations that offer outlets for different interests - religious affiliation, civic engagement, charity work, and academic fellowship. As a student at UALR you have opportunities to enjoy the arts: campus galleries, music and dance performances from students and professionals, and a community chorus. The cost of attending UALR is lower than other regional schools and there are many opportunities for financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants and work study."

"UALR offers affordable degrees, a convenient location in Central Arkansas, and plenty of extracurricular opportunities to learn about the community and world around us. For the most part, I found my professors to be easy to access with questions. My academic adviser was insightful and helped me course a path to finish my degree. The campus is also easily accessible by public transportation, which makes commuting that much easier. The various subcultures around campus also offer opportunities to learn about other viewpoints and expand your understanding of society."

"My undergraduate work at UALR was pretty amazing and easy. The English department is thorough and helpful. In my graduate studies, it has been horrible. I am on an ALP at my job in which I have 3 years to obtain my master's degree and the dean of special education at UALR advised me to take 4 classes to finish my degree. (I already have an all but thesis master's degree so I figured she moved classes around to get my certification). I was about to graduate this semester and all of a sudden was told I have 5 more classes to take in 2 semesters! All I got was "it was our fault, sorry, here is a $1200 scholarship to keep your mouth shut". Well, guess what, I can't afford to take 5 more classes since I pay out of pocket for each class. There is less than 8 students in the whole special ed department and 2-3 instructors. I've learned more at my job then at this college. It has been horrible and I may lose my job next semester if I don't come up with the money to pay for my classes left."

"The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is an amazing place to go to college with endless opportunities. Loving to work with people and with customer satisfaction led me to choosing to major in Public Relations and Marketing. After doing community service on campus, I was offered a job working with recruitment during the school year and over the summer. I love it and am getting valuable experience in promoting our campus to future students and developing presentations. Not to mention all of my instructors who are approachable and make class a unique and valuable experience each day. My tuition is practically paid for through the Chancellor's Leadership Corps, Freshman Entrance, Arkansas Lottery, and my department and local scholarships I received. UALR has been a perfect fit, close to home, where I've gained my independence and am every day learning life skills for my future career. I love it here."

"I finished my undergrad at the second largest college in Arkansas, UCA. I then went to further my education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I didn't think I would like or enjoy UALR. I love it! It's a small school found right in Little Rock. It's very diverse and there are a lot of things to do in Little Rock. My teachers have been great and I am really enjoying the graduate program. Plus, parking at a smaller school is AWESOME!"

"The Higher Education program at UALR, has taught me a lot just in the first semester! I have been able to use my knowledge that I am learning in the class room and apply to real life in my graduate assistantship program. Something that I am not too fond about is that the classes are late at night, I sometimes worry about my safety being on campus that late. The professors are wonderful, they are very knowledgeable and are more than willing to help us out."
