"I believe the accounting program at the Smith School of Business is an excellent program. The teachers are all dedicated to your success and provide ample time for tutoring and one on one help. The professors are also experts in the field, and some of them are affiliated with the CPA boards for different states. I do not have an undergraduate degree in accounting so having a great learning environment is crucial. This program also provides a lot of flexibility. There are four different tracks within the accounting program which can be completed in two or three semesters. There are tracks geared towards students with accounting undergraduate majors and a track for students like me with a different undergraduate major. Furthermore, this program has an excellent job placement rate after graduation. Within two months of beginning the program I had secured an internship with a Big 4 accounting firm, and my classmates on the one year track had secured full time jobs. For any student needing financial aid assistance, the Smith School graduate office offers a variety of scholarships and graduate assistantships. Overall, this program is a fantastic investment for anyone interested in accounting."

  • Degree: Public Policy
"A major in Public Policy enables students to understand how to make a positive difference in the most challenging problems facing our world today. Public policy focuses especially on analysis, to integrate the approaches of different disciplines in an effort to produce the best policy decisions and the most effective policy implementation. Rather than focusing on theories or institutions, Public Policy focuses on the problem and generating policies in response to that problem. Public policy is also interdisciplinary by nature. Mastering it requires the integration of knowledge from many disciplines to fully understand the problems at stake and offer viable solutions. The Public Policy major at Maryland draws upon the knowledge and experience usually gained through studying separate disciplines, such as business, philosophy, history, information studies, economics, sociology, and government and politics. Only through a coordinated exposure to these fields can a student understand how they interact in the world of Public Policy."

"I received my Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Maryland, College Park. I initially pursued a Biology degree for the first 3 years, but ultimately attained my degree in Kinesiology. Both degree programs prepared me for entry into a graduate program. However, I moved to California after college and gained employment in the transportation industry. Ive decided to go to Santa Monica College to retake science courses that act as prerequisites to eventually pursue a Masters degree in Physician Assistant studies. I need to retake college courses over again in review to promote my success at a Masters Program for Physician Assistant studies at a university of my choice."

"The University of Maryland Masters of Science in Accounting is a great program for students who plan to pursue an education in internal audit or forensic accounting. Faculty is very knowledgeable and bring real-world experience to the classroom. Many are adjunct professors with full-time jobs but I found this extremely beneficial as I was being taught by someone who practices what he or she teaches and the network they offer to students. The program is also available to working professional and evening classes are offered. I did wish they would've included the working professional a bit more during networking events and job fairs. These usually happened during the day and none during the evening hours. Overall, I recommend this program to all interested prospective students."

"The Master of Architecture Program is very rigorous. It requires long hours working on design projects in studio and is worth every minute. The path B program gives students with other backgrounds a crash course win spatial thinking, diagramming, and hand drawing before jumping into digital design, structure, materials, and codes."

"The University of Maryland, Master of Business Administration offers a rigorous curriculum that prepares the students for career growth or a change of careers. Whether it is the various networking opportunities or the real-life applicable class discussions, everyday in the program is valuable. The diverse student population provides insight from a variety of career backgrounds and cultures. The professors and Master's Program Office want the students to succeed and do their best to make that happen. Based on my experiences thus far, I would recommend the University if Maryland to anyone who is interested in pursuing a graduate degree."

  • Degree: Biomedical Engineering
"Overall, I think the bioengineering program offered at UMD is a good entryway to a career in biological engineering because of the variety of classes offered and the expertise of the faculty. The courses offered covers the foundation of skills necessary to pursue the career, from the fundamentals of mechanics to the special applications of bioengineering. One suggestion I would make regarding my experience with the program is the lack of emphasis in the "specific tracks" of the program. The tracks are used to tailor elective classes for a specific subfield of bioengineering. Unfortunately, I feel that they are not effective. I do realize that the program recently underwent reorganization of the curriculum, so tracks could be more effective currently. The program has improved and is more robust than before."

  • Degree: Anthropology
"The masters in applied anthropology at the University of Maryland, College Park is unique. Instead of writing a thesis, this program requires students to get an internship that is relevant to their focus. The course work also includes interviewing professionals in the field prior to the internship. This provides networking opportunities and openings to get an internship. There are also departmental activities that include networking and opening discussions about diversity and current issues."

"I love College park. Most importantly, I love the fact that it is very diverse. The university is consist of people from all over the world. The Professors are amazing, they are not only there to teach but to also form a great relationship with each and every one of their students. They work very hard to make sure every student is satisfied with every class they ever sign up for. They care and go above any beyond to help students with any issues they may have. The school in general is a very good school for students who seek for affordable and very convenient school. I come from Africa, so for a very long time, finding a suitable school was a challenge considering English being my second language. However, College park was a school that welcomed me very warmly and help make my transition extremely easy. I did not have a hard time finding students that I could relate to with the help of the great counselors the school provides for students. Overall, I did not just earn a degree from the university of Maryland, College park but also a great group of friends who I call family. I would love to go back for graduate school and be a part of this phenomenal experience once again:)"

"UMD, College Park offers a specialty masters program in Accounting, where you are guided through a rigorous program along with other students who follow along with the same program for the extensive 16 month program. As a full time employee, full time mother, and caretaker of my elder and disabled parents I needed a program that would work with my schedule and provided the most out of the time spent in class. I have been given the utmost professional and attentive support from staff and professors alike; a reminder why I returned to UMD for my graduate studies having attended for undergrad."

"I chose UMD because of its strong faculty presence in my area of study, its optimal research opportunities, and its numerous graduate assistantships available for funding options for Master's students. UMD's promixity to Washington DC gives students many internship and research opportunities with institutions such as the Smithsonian, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and the Library of Congress. Living in College Park is affordable, with both easy access to the main attractions of DC and surrounding nature preserves and parks."

"The University of Maryland at College Park works with our public school system to ensure that teachers maintain the highest level of education. I am enrolled in a STEM teacher leadership program that is taking place over three years. The university works with my job schedule which is imperative for working scholars and we are able to meet off campus, closer to where we teach. I will be enrolled in science and math classes that are geared towards elementary exploration as well as technology and engineering design courses that help me to learn how to best use my resources. The STEM program offers me another opportunity to learn about the integration of these practices and how to best apply them in my classroom to reach all of my learners. It also allows me to explore new technologies to enhance my teaching and create more engagement in my lessons. My students will learn how to be more reflective and collaborative while learning that science, math and technology are for everyone, not just the select few that get it. I will be able to teach students to follow the science and engineering practices so they may become critical thinkers in the classroom and beyond. My goal is for them to see that they are not bound by gender, race, culture or language. I want them to embrace a growth mindset and recognize obstacles as challenges to grow and see that mistakes and setbacks allow for reflective thinking and refinement. I want them to learn that collaboration allows for progress and that one single person does not have the complete picture; it takes a group of learners to feed off of each other. STEM allows this to happen, but only through hands on experience in the classroom. This is not something that can be told, but rather something that has to be experienced by each student. Today, students need to be prepared to think deeply so they may be the innovators and leaders that can solve the challenging problems of our world. In order to do this, students need to have access to quality STEM experiences and they need a teacher that can help facilitate an environment that provides this. This program provides me with the tools and education I need to be able to further my students in this area. The staff and advisors go out of their way to ensure you know what to do every step of the way and are very encouraging."
