Student & Graduate Reviews

Degree: Social Work
Graduation Year: 2016

The small class sizes, supportive peers and professors, and strong field internships are the highlights of Adelphi. As to cons, there is no "campus life" as we are a satellite campus, some of the professors are weak and I do not feel the students are heard on this point -- the same professors come back even with poor reviews, and the cost of tuition is very high for a career that notoriously pays low.

Degree: Communications (Speech Pathology)
Graduation Year: 2016

My graduate school experience is unique. I am a returning student at my university and I feel that I am treated with kindness and respect by my faculty and peers. I am hard working student and I feel that the professors are available to support my education when I need them. I think that the classrooms need to be updated and ergonomics should be considered. Entering the modern era, standing desks would be very interesting! Perhaps with the option to sit down every once in a while. Overall, my experience at Adelphi University has been positive and I appreciate the opportunity that I have to study.

Degree: Social Work
Graduation Year: 2016

The School of Social Work faculty are committed to helping their students' succeed. They are always there to provide guidance when necessary. One negative of the program is that the First year courses are mixed - meaning there are both undergraduate and graduate students in the classes.

Degree: Communications (Speech Pathology)
Graduation Year: 2017

Any graduate student of Speech-Language Pathology will be at home at Adelphi due to the wide selection of externships, internships, and other academic offerings from world class professors. It would be beneficial if there were a greater number of classes dealing with an adult population.

Adelphi University has a beautiful, small campus that is easy to get around and feels very safe, even walking around at night. It is very close to the train station for easy commute, and walking distance to a few small shops and restaurants. My professors were very friendly and I never had trouble getting their advice or extra help during office hours. The downsides to Adelphi are the price and the social life. Adelphi is very expensive and does not offer ample scholarship or funding. You will acquire substantial debt here, both from the university costs and the living costs. Social life wise- this is a commuter college. Only the younger undergrads live on campus, so there aren't many ways to make friends unless you really go out of your way for it. People commute from all over Long Island, so it's harder to see your friends outside of class. Many grad students are busy and further away (to find cheaper living costs) and don't show a great deal of interest in campus events or socializing. This is a great university if you have money and will work for (or don't need) an active social life.

Degree: School Psychology
Graduation Year: 2016

Overall the school psychology program is great. Faculty is very accessible, they help you with finding fieldwork placements, and they are truly knowledgeable regarding the school psychology field. Also, since the program lasts three years, during the second and third year you are already placed in schools and receiving real life experience which is necessary once you graduate. I am very pleased with my decision and I would choose it again if I had to.

Degree: Social Work
Graduation Year: 2015

Pros: Adelphi University's staff/faculty have been very reliable and helpful when responding to student's inquiries since the start of the application process. These areas include class registration, financial aid, and advise. Since getting accepted to Adelphi University, all I have had is a positive outlook in returning to college (graduate level) after 3 years of being out of school. I will be studying at Adelphi University's Manhattan campus, however, I am looking forward to graduating in on their main campus in Garden City in May, 2015. Cons: Since registered as a student, I have been able to learn of all the great student life opportunities Adelphi University offers. However, most events take place on the main campus in Garden City. I hope to see more opportunities on the Manhattan campus throughout the semester.

To date, I have had nothing but positive experiences at Adelphi. I only wish there were more financial aid opportunities available through the school.
