Student & Graduate Reviews

3.17 out of 5.0
Degree: Environmental Science
Graduation Year: 2015

This online degree has its pros and cons. On the plus side, the price is right, and the professors gave me the freedom to work on the subjects of greatest interest/relevance to me. Some of the professors were very much involved in the field at the same time they were teaching the class, as well. Cons, for me, included some of the work being too easy, some of the lower class level profs being ill informed on the subject matter, and a general lack of ability to really connect with professors due to the nature of online learning. It's also difficult to get valuable recommendations from an online institution unless you're really extraordinary. Overall, though, the ease of scheduling classes, the cost of classes, and the incredible convenience of working on a degree from an accredited institution exclusively from home make this an easy choice. And of course, another plus was that the university had the environmental courses I wanted/needed.

American Public University System makes it possible for anyone to achieve your dreams! School is not out of reach if you attend here. With easy access to all study material, message boards, and teachers, learning is only a step away! Being an online program you do miss out of group projects and having a group setting of everyone meeting up and brainstorming, but as adults in the workforce that is hard to achieve anyway. I would love to see video lectures from teachers instead of just message boards.

Degree: Liberal Studies
Graduation Year: 2014

My last professor had her PhD from UC Berkeley. She was amazing and taught us so much with all the support we could want as well. When I found this affordable graduate online program I thought it would not be scholarly enough. Each of our profs has had a PhD from a great university and basically if you want a quality scholarly experience, you can get it here.

American Public University offers the kind of program flexible enough for anyone to complete their degree while continuing to work and uphold family responsibilities.

Degree: History

This school is my only experience with a grad program. I cannot imagine any other program being any more intensive. The instructors are amazing, the workload strenuous and the education that I'm receiving seems amazing. It remains to be seen if I'll be able to get a job with this degree.

Degree: Political Science
Graduation Year: 2013

I was an online student only. The 8-week courses and the fact you could start at the beginning of each month made this a very good program. The online classroom environment was a little hard to get used to. The interaction with the other students and instructors was top-notch. There are some very experienced, knowledgeable people taking the online courses at APUS. I learned a great deal from classmates who were active duty military members, many stationed around the world. Another positive aspect of APUS is the cost. Although it went up some during the two years I "attended," it was still very affordable.

Very excited to be apart of the graduate program. I am currently employed with Wal-Mart and am looking for a change. The pros are great teachers and online curriculum and really haven't come across any cons yet.

I really like this school. It's affordable and because I am a working professional, the 8 week classes are perfect for me. I will be able to complete my degree at a much faster pace. I have had four classess so far and have not found anything that I do not like.

Pros: - Instructors reply to student as quickly as possible when e-mailed. Cons: - Different deadlines for initial forum is short.

Degree: Public Administration
Graduation Year: 2014

It's great to be able to work when and where you have time, especially as a working parent! It is tough to get parts of the online library to work, though -- frequently a time-consuming sticking point.
