Degree: Social Work
Graduation Year: 2019

Appalachian State University's distance education social work program is made excellent by the knowledgeable and caring instructors. The instructors take the time to ensure that the education material can be applied effectively by the students through utilizing a variety of teaching methods. Additionally, instructors remain available so that students can obtain support as needed.

I enjoyed the teacher to student ratio. My professors and clinical supervisors were excellent and taught me the skills I would need outside of the classroom. The campus is absolutely beautiful with many activities for students.

Degree: Clinical Psychology
Graduation Year: 2017

The clinical psychology master's program at Appalachian State University has been invaluable to me as a early-career professional and student. The program faculty have provided numerous opportunities for professional development by encouraging participation in research and clinical experiences in the surrounding community. Additionally, this program's unique geographic location offers the chance to work with under served rural populations.

Appalachian state embodies the true feelings of mountain culture and a laid back educational environment.

Degree: Psychology
Graduation Year: 2017

The school psychology graduate program has provided me with an extremely diverse skill set, including counseling, consultation, collaboration, assessment, intervention, and program evaluation skills. The faculty are very knowledgable and supportive of all cohort members. The course work is both challenging but appropriate. While the field itself is competitive, the atmosphere within the cohorts is more supportive and encouraging rather than comparing performances. I have felt extremely prepared for my current practicum experience and feel ready to begin my internship next school year.

Degree: Liberal Arts
Graduation Year: 2017

Appalachian State University is in one of the most beautiful locations in North Carolina, situated right in the mountains. The weather is pleasant here, although it gets cold in the winter. My specific graduate program is friendly and very helpful when it comes to questions and concerns I have. The faculty are helpful and cooperative, and the number of people accepted is small. As a cohort, we get to know each other well, and we also interact with the older students in the program. The program is sensitive to diversity and cultural differences within it, and the course material reflects this mentality. The program does not have an internship site on campus, which means sites are off-campus and sometimes up to an hour's drive away. Overall, I would definitely recommend this program.

Degree: School Psychology
Graduation Year: 2018

My program does an excellent job of preparing us to be future school psychologists. We receive many opportunities to gain hands-on experience in school settings, working with students, teachers, parents, and administrators. My program also does an excellent job of providing us with multi-cultural training, despite the fact that we are, unfortunately, located in an area lacking in cultural diversity.

There are not many opportunities to receive scholarships. The housing is extremely expensive. Great school with an even better location.

Degree: Social Sciences
Graduation Year: 2016

The Master's in I-O Psychology and HR Management is a highly valued and respected degree in the workforce. The program has an excellent reputation that extends to both HR and I-O Psychology communities. The workload of courses is very testing but worthwhile and relevant. The degree provides a sound education on HR best practices by matching them to empirical research in I-O psychology. Students receive highly specialized training that enables them to bring a scientist-practitioner mindset to the executive table, which also prepares them for management and leadership positions.

Degree: School Counseling
Graduation Year: 2016

The Professional School Counseling program at Appalachian State University is located on a beautiful campus surrounded by mountains, it is really hard to hate the city you live in. The faculty and staff for the department is wonderful, and I have had nothing but positive experiences with each one of them during my first year as a graduate student. Students are also very supportive of one another and really try to involve each other in social life and doing things together. I have met some great people in my program and in my classes and I truly believe that my experience here has allowed me to grow as an individual. The one thing that the university lacks is diversity and I am unsure if that is due to low interest of the school from diverse cultures, but the majority of the school is caucasian.
