"It is a great school to go to if you fit into the WASP category. The school provides a great environment to learn and help those in need, however the student body is not very diverse. Thus, if you do not belong in the mentioned class, you might have a hard time adjusting to the hard-partying/ hard-studying lifestyle"

"Boston College is a truly incredible institution that offers its students many opportunities, both inside and outside of the classroom. The majority of the professors there are excellent in that they both challenge and support their students. The students at Boston College are motivated to do well in their classes, give back to the community, learn about the rest of the world, get involved in on-campus activities and enjoy their time in college. Boston College is also in a beautiful and exciting setting, with lush grounds located just outside of the city of Boston. Most importantly, the university instills its students with the knowledge and confidence that they need to be successful in their futures and to make an impact in the world."

"Great professors. A conservative campus with a liberal undercurrent that I'm proud has been expanding and being more vocal during my time here."

"The history department itself is wonderful. Faculty are great and I've had really good experiences with my advisor. However, the teaching load is very high and takes a lot of time, making it difficult to complete the program quickly. Additionally, the graduate school is implementing a number of changes which is dramatically reducing graduate student funding and health insurance coverage for future years. In conjunction with other changes a new administration is introducing, I can no longer recommend the graduate program at Boston College. Graduates will likely find it difficult to complete the program without securing outside funding and will likely find the reputation of the program declining in the coming years."

"Boston College can be a great, supportive community, but the administration is very close-minded and if you do not fit the typical heterosexual, white, and affluent student type, you will receive very little support."

"Overall fantastic experience. City opportunity you must take advantage of, music scene and museums in particular. Great campus and balance between neighborhood and large city. So long as you do not become discouraged by the amount of people and try your best to be true to yourself and make friendships count, then you will meet some of your best friends for life. Great balance between studies, resources available on and off campus, and activities to spend time on a Friday evening."

"I'm a current graduate student at the Lynch School of Education at Boston College, studying Mental Health Counseling. I have the wonderful privilege of being among some of the most dedicated, intelligent and lively future mental health professionals and I feel so lucky to be one of them at Boston College. We are all extremely close and this has been one of the most rewarding experience in the program. I love the social justice message my program holds and the dedication to that message from my cohort, however, it sometimes feels that we're up a creek without a paddle. The staff is fairly well trained and interested in the success of students but the overall communication of the program about expectations for internship and licensure leave some things to be desired. Of course graduate school has high expectations, however, in a field that speaks highly about self care, self care often takes a backseat to paper deadlines, classes, internship, and working outside of going to school. While I wouldn't trade the experience in for the world, it is certainly not to be taken lightly. It's quite the financial burden and can take an emotional, mental, and even physical toll. I love BC and my program and my only advice is that a prospective student be as informed as possible about the culture of the program and the breakdown of tuition."

"The program isn't as flexible as I had originally hoped and the school could do more to support its students of color, however overall it is a program with curriculum that covers many key topics/concepts to prepare social workers for full time employment after degree completion."

"Completing my M.Ed at Boston College gave me access to some really wonderful, inspiring faculty and practical skills and knowledge for the classroom. I was able to take some courses outside of the M.Ed curriculum and actually found those to be the most rewarding."

"Boston College's School of Social Work is a selective and highly academic program. Students receive a quality education from some of the best professors in the field of social work and receive valuable internship experience with the Field Education program. The financial aid, however, is difficult to come by and tuition is very expensive. Students are able to choose a part-time program so that they may work full-time, making the program more affordable."

"Boston College is where a large portion of innovation in education is happening. The standards they hold student teachers to goes above and beyond expectations held by the state, and therefore over prepares students for the requirements they will experience in the work place. Placements into schools ranges from Boston College high to schools outside of their typical network. Mentors during the pre- and full practicum program do not fall into an average--some are amazing, wise, and learned teachers and others are fulfilling requirements for their respective degree. The biggest drawback to the Lynch School is the same drawback as all educational preparatory programs: nothing is as authentic as being in a classroom alone, planning by yourself, and executing lessons without help."

"The MA in Applied Developmental and Educational Psychology gives a lot of flexibility to students to choose their focus area and their program of studies. You can choose from several pre-determined focus areas, including (among others) early childhood, promotion & prevents, and research. You can also take an individualized focus. The Certificate in Human Rights and International Justice is also a great option that does not necessarily add to your course load."

"BCSSW does a great job about incorporating student feedback into the classes, and continually revising the curricula to adapt to the changing environment. All assignments relate back to a required field placement, and are very career-skills oriented. BCSSW is one of the country's top 10 social work programs."
