Degree: Child Development

Capella has been great! The staff is easily available and accessible. The variety in the format of the programs offered at Capella give students options that can really adjust to their lifestyles. In some programs students are allowed to choose a standard program or an accelerated program based on how fast they can work through it all by proving their competency through assessments. The College of Psychology is very supportive of their students and try to accommodate all situations. Highly recommended!

Capella University, School of Public Service Leadership is a doctoral program that allows students to continue their careers while also achieving their academic goals. The school is an accredited institution that pushes students through a doctoral process that prepares you for your field of study and most importantly your dissertation work. I find the program very challenging, very organized and believe that the process has strengthened my writing, research and comprehensive skills in the area of non-profit management. I would recommend, but caution learners that this school requires extensive work and you must be prepared for the journey.

I chose Capella because I needed the flexibility in my life, I have a full time job and I wanted to further my education in order to give me the boost I needed to find my career. With Capella, everything is online, unless you actually live in Missouri. The assessments (assignments) are few but involve critical thinking and keep you focused on what you will be doing in the real world. The coaches and tutors are always there to help you out whenever you need it.

Degree: Public Health
Graduation Year: 2019

Upon receiving my Bachelor of Science in Psychology, I decided that I immediately wanted to jump into the workforce instead of going ahead and completing my masters. Now, three years later, I have finally decided to return to college to begin my Masters in Public Health (MPH). Finding the right college was important to me now that I was balancing a full-time job and dedicating time to my husband and 1-year-old son. I decided that Capella University was the right choice for me after comparing approximately 30 different schools. Capella made it easy for me to apply and I didnt have to wait very long to hear that I had been accepted. Once accepted, I was paired with a knowledgeable adviser that helped me schedule and design my ideal academic plan. In no time at all, I was officially a Capella University graduate student and taking my first class. Although I have only been taking classes at Capella for three quarters now, I can say that I have already learned a lot and have applied many of the learning concepts to my current career. The MPH program outlines environmental health concepts, social behavior issues, leadership, biostatistics, epidemiology, among other quality public health concepts. In my current career as a Special Projects Coordinator at a local nonprofit hospital, my duties consist of performing a Community Health Needs Assessment, reporting for the 1115 Medicaid Waiver, engaging and tracking community benefit, and providing community outreach collaborations for the hospital. With the knowledge and experience I gain from the MPH program from Capella University, I hope to strengthen and diversify my career methods to better serve the environment and community.

Degree: Human Resources
Graduation Year: 2018

Applying to Capella University has been one of the best decisions I've made. The online application process was very simple, and the academic adviser was always available to help me with any questions or concerns I had, and any changes I wanted to make to my program. You may even find a promo code for waiving the application fee. Capella's website has been easy to navigate and use throughout my courses. In the virtual classroom, each week's syllabus is laid out for students to ensure we are prepared for assignments. The courses are challenging, but it's very rewarding as I turn in the weekly assignments...especially in the final week. These courses have definitely helped me in my current federal career in Human Resources. I have a much better understanding of how everything works, and I feel more confident on the job than ever. I am excited to complete my program and earn my Master's Degree, which will only help me climb the federal career ladder.

Degree: Non-Profit Management
Graduation Year: 2019

I attend classes entirely online, which is why I have given the campus a 3/5 for safety- I can't speak for the campus. The curriculum I've encountered thus far has been fairly easy. For some, this is good, for others it may not be. Most of the class receives good grades, almost 100%, even when their work is grammatically incorrect or lacking in substantiation. It's hard to say whether the teachers actually read the assignments some of the time. The professors and advising staff are always quick to answer questions and are accessible to students. Professors at the graduate level are PhDs, so that makes for higher quality instruction. The school is for profit, which makes it very expensive. However, it is easy to get financial aid help and there are scholarships available as well.

I believe I got an excellent education from Capella. The only down side is that it is an online-based school, and I felt employers look down upon this still. I hope that this will change in the future, because I did get a great education, though I had to fight to defend my degree.

Degree: Education Administration
Graduation Year: 2016

I enjoyed each one of the classes that I took to complete my degree program. The orientation class (the first class you take before you get started with your program) was very helpful and it was one of the reasons why I believe I did so well. A good introduction was important to me and really a determining factor to if I would stay with the program at this institution or move forward elsewhere. I am happy with what I learned, their competency format is great. The professors were attentive, easy to communicate with, and did a good job explaining course expectations and content.

If one is interested in taking classes completely online, I strongly recommend this school. The blackboard that is used is easy to navigate and there is always technical help available. The professors are greatly helpful and in the doctoral program, there are TAs in the classes that help also. The course work is not too heavy and there is always help among the other students as well as the professor. There are discussion to do weekly (either 1 or 2) and all assignments are posted as soon as the class starts. I completed my Master's program through Capella also. I was terrified of working on my final project to get my Master's, but Capella made it very easy. My whole last class was strictly for writing that final paper. Each week, a piece of the paper was due and the professor would provide great feedback. By the end of the class, the final paper was complete. The doctoral program has a lot of support. The classes can be taken at your own pace and in an order that benefits you. There are 3 residencies that need to be taken and they last a full weekend. The time is spent to prepare your topic for acceptance so that the study can be conducted. Most professors that I have had have been easily accessible whether over the phone or through email.
