The pro is the fact that the program is completely online. The con is the fact that I will have to travel to Minnesota from California to participate in graduation exercises.

The pros of my graduate school program include flexibility with my schedule as a full time employee and mother, the wonderful resources available to answer any question that I may have and the ability to view tutorials regarding course room discussions. The cons are turn around time for professor responses and sometimes wanting the social one on one interaction with advisors, students and professors.

The pros to online studying is that I am still able to have a work balance with kids, school and work. Somretimes it is diffidult than others, but Capella will provide the student with all assignments due for the class so that students can prepare for vacations. Capella University online professor are very understanding of unforseen incidents that may occur with family, which is very important to me because I have twin sons. My overall experence has been great with Capella University Online. I have only had a few encounters that I wish I could change. The cons to receiving my PhD online is continuing to prove myself in knowledge and expertise. Lastly, in the PhD program the student is required to attend colloquia (residencies) and they are not covered by financial aid, so I had to get a separate loan my colloquias.

Degree: Counseling
Graduation Year: 2014

Pros: It does not feel like an online program per say. The residencies and video chats really help to make the program feel more like a "real school". The faculty are very knowledgable and relevant. The staff are helpful and easy to talk to. Professors get back with you pretty quickly. Subject and knowledge levels are informative. Easy to continue with life while school "classes" are in. Cons: Finding my own fieldwork placement was a real pain. Then, submission of the paperwork caused more pain. Traveling for the residencies can be financially painful. It is difficult if you are not self-motivated or need to "see" others sturuggle with you.

Degree: Counseling
Graduation Year: 2015

Attending an online university has its pros and its cons. I enjoy not having to drive to a class at a designated time. I like knowing my deadlines in advance and working at my own place to complete the assignments. The course load is just as (if not more) extensive as “on-land” courses. The only con is not having the ability to go back to courses taken more than 90 days ago.
