Terrible experience

Reviewed: 1/12/2024

My experience as a student at Capella is one of profound disappointment. From intoxicated professors at my Atlanta residency week to the Supreme Court case Sweet v Cardona, this university would never have been selected for my education had I known the level of unethical standards exhibited. I do not recommend this university.

The good, the instructors and curriculum was outstanding. The tech support as well. The bad, good luck getting to speak to a coach or tutor. Coach never returns any form of communication I spoke to mine maybe twice in 2.5 years. Tutor takes 2 weeks to book, they will tell you they can't help you but feel free to book another time. You are mostly on your own🤦‍♀️ the ugly, the financial aid is soooo messed up I must have missed a week or more of work because I had so many issues I finally had to take... Read More

As a recent graduate from the Flexpath DNP program with an award date of December 31, 2023, I would like to offer some insights and advice for prospective students. Firstly, it's important to recognize that while admission to the program is assured, many students set unrealistic expectations regarding the timeline for completing the program. Additionally, there is a tendency to overestimate one's research and writing skills. It is widely acknowledged among alumni that the Flexpath DNP program is... Read More

I earned both a masters and doctorate degree from Cappella. I thought it was a great school and much more challenging than I first anticipated. The instructors were great; very professional and caring. Many of my instructors at Cappella were teaching part time and had other prestigious careers. I would absolutely recommend Cappella to any working adult going back to school.

Completed the BSN and MSN in nursing education with the FlexPath program. Relevant coursework and great professors. Advanced my career. Expected same with DNP. Poor experience. Lack of knowledge from advisor. Professors disorganized and unresponsive with feedback. One professor gave students a website to purchase papers from right on the courseroom. Frequent professor changes suddenly. Project got approved then revoked making program longer and more expensive. Major issues not resolved even after... Read More

I was misled by the financial aid department! I was told the same thing by two individuals there regarding my financial aid disbursement. When I called again and spoke to another person in financial aid they told me something else. No help, and it is resulting me in having to pay $2250 for a semester out of pocket. I decided to withdraw from Capella and when I spoke to the academic advisor she did not ask me what the reason was or if there was anything they could do to help. They do not care about... Read More

My experience with Capella University has been frustrating, especially regarding charges on my account. They initially stated students have 21 days to drop a class, but later said it's before the first Friday. This inconsistency can greatly impact students. Clear and consistent communication is essential. To add to the frustration, I dropped my class on day 9, well within the initial 21-day window, but was still charged $772. This discrepancy in charges and deadlines needs addressing. Overall, I... Read More

I graduated with a PhD in Counseling Studies in 2013. When I first enrolled, Capella touted that it would be easy for me to advance my career after graduation. I still have not found a job that uses this degree, except being an adjunct professor. The sad thing is I will never find a job that makes enough money to pay back all my student loans. I definitely do not recommend Capella University to anyone.

Determination. Curiosity. Independence. Those are thee of the things that will ensure you get the most out of your education at Capella. The types of courses they had for my program were nuanced and appropriate and there was a consistent demand to call upon critical thinking skills which has improved every facet of my life. The online platform brings a level of digestibility when it comes to time and flexibility in accordance to lifestyle as an adult learner. While I wouldn’t trade my Capella education,... Read More

I chose the flex path for both my BSN and MSN-education. I'm not a great test taker and now that I've been a practicing nurse for 14 years, with parenting and other responsibilities, this path worked well for me. I saw some nurses complete their degrees in one or two billing cycle but I took a little over a year for each degree. Flex path allowed me to write papers on my expertise, hospice. Some where so good I was encouraged to publish. I feel that I learned more about hospice by writing papers... Read More

Some professors were easy while others made it hard for no reason! Its typical nursing school! I chose flexpath which was easier to breeze through classes and it was affordable . My academic coach was trash. My self and several other students had complaints!

I liked the FlexPath format and how I was able to move along. My academic counselor was always helpful but like any other school, there are areas of improvement. It is a good school to attend. The curriculum offered is current and not outdated. If you go through the FlexPath format, be prepared to right and work for it. This degree helped me obtain a promotion in my job.

I am finishing up my doctoral degree in education (higher education specialization). Overall I had a great experience at Capella! Each class was 10 weeks. There were 10 core classes and then 6 advanced doctoral classes where I wrote my dissertation. I became very close with my cohort. My mentor was attentive and available. The work is challenging yet manageable. I feel a sense of pride that I am almost done with a Dr. in front of my name! If I had to do it all again, I would still choose Capella!... Read More

This school has exceeded my expectations in every way. Each assignment has a clear purpose and intent to assist in my career goals. The teachers are helpful, educated and professional. Financial aid is helpful any time I’ve contacted them, the only thing negative is calling financial aid sometimes takes 45 minutes. I can totally handle that. I’m SO excited to continue my education and so glad I made this choice.

Don’t do it. I wish someone would’ve told me sooner. There are plenty of other schools. You literally teach yourself, besides writing papers you don’t really learn anything. You’re not prepared for the state exam, there’s nothing done in the program to prepare you for it. They make the internships extremely difficult and it’s really embarrassing to community partners. There is no communication, and there’s no way for you to connect with people on the phone. Most other MSW programs are much shorter.... Read More
