"Great education for a reasonable price. If going to SW School and are a resident of NY State I would highly recommend Hunter College. Private college for Social Work is twice as much for same education."

"My experience at Hunter College has been absolutely fantastic. I find that the faculty is available to all students whenever they are needed and is able to present instruction in class to meet the direct needs of their students. Many of the classes at Hunter are hybrids, which are taught half online and half in the classroom. This works out great for me as I live about 40 minutes away and need to take mass transit after a full day of work for school. I also find the professors very facilitating when it comes to papers, due dates, and classes, based on individual needs. The only con that I can think of is that the campus is spread out in two separate locations, about 30 blocks apart. When making the schedule for the upcoming semester, students are usually unable to see the locations of the classes until right before they commence. Aside from this, I have come to love this institution and feel extremely comfortable leaving a great rating for it."

"I learned a lot of a Hunter and had great professors. It's a commuter school, so it's not a traditional college campus environment and it may not be for everyone. But if you're really focusing on your studies and you are looking for quality instruction, I'd highly recommend checking out Hunter!"

"I wouldn't choose Hunter again if I could do it over for my Masters of Urban Planning. The program was lacking in both great teachers (most were just okay - even if they had real world experience). Also, Hunter's Master of Urban Planning program has absolutely Career help or advice. You better know someone or you're all on your own and in this economic climate, that's not good. Hunter in itself is just a series of three towers (16 stories each) and getting to class in an elevator only (escalators go up to 6th floor I think) takes too much time. There is no green space whatsoever and it's a commuter school to the max."

"Hunter College's Masters in TESOL program is well-regarded in the field for good reason. The professors are not only excellent teachers and mentors, they are also actively engaged in classroom-based research. My colleagues in the program were bright, collaborative, and passionate about teaching English language learners."

"I am really enjoying my experience at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. The professors definitely push you, but it's definitely for your benefit. The atmosphere of East Harlem definitely adds to the appeal of the school. The area is very safe and I feel comfortable walking by myself during the day or night. The quality of education you receive here is excellent."

"The urban planning program is affordable, flexible with schedules, and offers an array of classes taught by top-level experienced, working adjuncts in the field as well as skilled full time professors who care deeply about the field and preparing students for it."

"The special education program has a great faculty, who makes themselves avaliable to their student. The professors are very knowledgeable and really attempt to help their students wit hands on experience. Small classroom size allows for teaching to be more direct and personal. Cons of the program would include that professors can be very vague when explaining assignments. Different advisors provide different recommendations on future classes."

"The Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter is very supportive. Faculty and administration are transparent at the school and social justice for marginalized populations is one of the mantras. These facts alone empower me as a student preparing for a career in social work. However the workload, like any graduate program, is quite overbearing. I did a group project on the student populations and it was found average pages of recommended and required reading for students are 900 -1000 a week for the first semester students! That is intense! On the other hand, it is very easy to travel to the school and it is very accessible for those with disabilities. This is hands down the most affordable MSW accredited program in New York City. I also love the pass fail option here. This way I put less pressure on the letter grade and greater focus on the quality of my work. Silberman also teaches students to be mindful practitioners which is a life long skill. I do wish there were more historical components in the curriculum however. This way, students who are not aware of why oppressed people have been forced into such conditions, can gather a stronger understanding of the different -isms that unfortunately divide and keep people conquered up to this day."

"Hunter's Urban Planning Graduate Program is great! Great professors and very interesting and current issues being discussed. The program is very challenging as well as enlightening. Hunter is a great school and its affordability is unmatched."

"The CUNY school system has several connection throughout the NYC schools. This connection allows for proper placement for graduate student teaching."

"The professors at Hunter are the real reason why you would go there. Every professor I have had was willing to put in the extra time and effort to make sure everyone's needs were met. We always walked out of a course smarter than when we walked in."

"Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College is one of the most competitive social work programs in NYC. In my year, 38% of applicants were accepted. That said, the students in this program are very smart and full of incredible life experiences. I often learn as much from my peers as I do my teachers. Students do not receive letter grades (unless they opt for that) and instead get Pass, Fail, or Honors grades. This allows me to focus less on the grade and more on the content of the classes."

"The Public Health program is a great value and the teachers are very invested in the students. However since most students work full-time it is difficult to form that sense of community."

The field work education curriculum is a wonderful asset/pro of the schools, and there are no cons related to this graduate program."
