Student & Graduate Reviews

Emporia State, so far, has been a great university to complete my online degree. I wanted a reputable university to get an online degree from, so that I could maintain my current residence and full time job. This degree is providing just that. The professors are all extremely willing to teach you, if you are willing to learn. The actual administration is helpful with everything, financial aid, class registration, buying books, etc.

The great thing about this program is that you have the option to earn your degree at home, in your own time, and at your own pace. You learn online and your professors utilize technological tools to teach the material from their office. You do have class weekends where you come in and actually learn from your professor, which is a great asset. The downside to this program is that there isn't much of a social aspect to it. This makes it difficult to network, to get to know your classmates, and even to work on some projects that are assigned. It is important to weigh the importance of independent learning vs. the importance of classroom time and decided what works best for your learning style.

Degree: Mathematics
Graduation Year: 2016

I was leery of any graduate math program - how do you learn math online?? This program has proved me wrong! Emporia has figured out a wonderful system for online learning of mathematics using a combination of video, office hours, notes, and message boards. Professors are very supportive and available. The tuition was the most reasonable for an accredited degree. The work load can be difficult but on par with graduate level work. The available courses cover a wide range of topics. I highly recommend this degree program for anyone interested in an online graduate degree in math!

Degree: Health Sciences
Graduation Year: 2016

I take all of my classes online and I have had a great experience with all of my classes. The teachers and advisors respond to emails quickly. They also put in the same time and effort they expect from their students. The feedback on assignments is helpful to improving and building upon future assignments.

Degree: Instructional Technology
Graduation Year: 2012

This program has excellent professors and leads to a variety of career opportunities in the field of Instructional Design and Technology as well as within education and training in general. I thoroughly enjoyed working with and developing a relationship with the faculty. Because the program is online, it is also convenient to take regardless o physical location.

ESU's IDT program that has knowledgeable professors who care about your learning. Fortunately, it is an online program so the negatives about Emporia, Kansas quality of life don't have to factor into educational success. I would recommend this program to others interested in Ed tech or similar fields.

Degree: Elementary Education
Graduation Year: 2016

Emporia has been the greatest experience for me. It has opened doors to new ideas of how to be an effective teacher and how to enhance the lives of students. Because of a professor opening up a new Master's program, I am able to be educated in the field of STEM at a college a greatly respect and under teachers who have impacted my life in the best way possible. Occasionally, you will get a professor who is there is teach their subject matter and not the students, but they are very far and few between. The good teachers outshine the bad.

The program director of the SLIM Portland cohort is the star of the graduate school. She interviews, enroll and mentors each student as they take online classes. Since I work full-time, I enjoy finding connections between my work in an academic library and the theory of cataloging, metadata and website creation.
