Degree: Marriage & Family Therapy
Graduation Year: 2018

The marriage and family therapy program at Iona College is one of four AAMFT accredited programs in New York State. This, and the fact that it was close to my job and home at the time, were was a major factors in my choice to attend this institution. The program is three years and more costly than some programs because it is offered at a private institution. In addition to attending and passing all classes, student are required to earn 500 direct contact hours with clients to graduate. Half of those hours need to spent doing therapy with families or couples. As a student in the program, I have received excellent instruction from my professors and mentorship on how to prepare and navigate success in the field. I am entering my final year of graduate school, and I have confidence that the teaching I have received thus far has helped me to be socially conscious, sensitive and competent clinician-in- training. However, this program is not perfect as no program is without its flaws. Namely, the program does not match students with internships, and it does not have a relationship with many sites to help students connect. Without an internship is is nearly impossible for a student to earn all of their internship hours to graduate. It is difficult for students in the program to compete with students from other institutions with established institutional relationships. The program is working to make connections with internship providers, but it will take time before students are able to benefit from it. Of course, the current status of this situation does not make it impossible for one to find an internship, but it will require a significant amount of effort and grit to secure a placement. As a result, the student learns to become incredibly self-sufficient searching for opportunities and a master at interviewing to attain an internship. As a whole, the marriage and family therapy program provides the student with solid foundation to prepare to be a marriage and family therapist. I have enjoyed my experience. and would recommend this program to anyone who wants to study marriage and family therapy.

Degree: Counseling
Graduation Year: 2020

I am a 1st year student and I have high expectations of this campus based on former graduates and reviews. I live in the town the school is located and I have mixed reviews about the students however, now that I am attending I find this school to be very rewarding. They offer so much, and given its reputation, Id expect nothing less, but as a graduate student you have to really review and find things out for yourself. There is little information offered unless you request but what do you know when this is your first experience right? This may be my personal experience but I find new thing and opportunities literally everyday I am on campus and interacting with those around me. They have a lovely campus, and as the weather improves I find more and more interesting things to participate in. I spend time here and there exploring and finding new things on campus and by researching on the website. Overall, I enjoy the coursework, the professors are helpful as can be and there is much room for networking and professional and personal growth.

Lives up to its name. A beautiful, clean campus with rich history. It's a small school but offers a large number of programs and excellent facilities. The faculty is top notch and very friendly. I made life long friends and thoroughly enjoyed my time at Iona. I would definitely recomend it to any student considering going enrolling at Iona college.
