Most students in the structural engineering program went to undergrad at Iowa State, so the professors teach their classes as an extension of the undergrad equivalent. Students who went to other institutions can feel lost.

If all you want is research this is the place for you. Faculty are not focused on classes due to research and publication pressure.

Great level of education. I don't think there are big differences between ISU CE and other relative top ranked programs in the US!

Iowa State University is a great university to do your graduate studies at. The university is top notch for agricultural fields as well as engineering (my fields). Faculty/staff are really supportive of students' learning as well as helpful for finding jobs after school. Ames is a great town to be in, with wonderful public transportation. However, if you find Ames to be too small, Des Moines is right down the road and has even more entertainment options. Be sure to attend a Cyclones athletics event and get involved with VEISHEA in the spring to get the most of your experience at Iowa State.
