Degree: School Counseling
Graduation Year: 2015

My career as an international teacher takes me around the world, so being able to get my graduate degree while traveling was a complete blessing. Lamar is well known throughout Texas for its outstanding programs in teacher education. Ratings about social life don't exactly apply because I am an online student, but I am continually receiving notifications of fun student activities on campus (I wish I was there to join in!). Lamar is also well known for its diversity; helping students from all over the country and the world better themselves as scholars and professionals. The workload of my program is just about perfect, because it is designed for full-time professionals, so three credits can be taken every five weeks. If I'm ever in need of assistance, Lamar has FABULOUS management personnel who worked with me through all the steps of the application, and have provided me with further contacts if I am ever in need of anything else. Because the Masters in School Counseling is under the Academic Partnerships program, school based financial aid is not offered, only Direct unsubsidized loans, which is not very helpful for students who have already accumulated undergraduate student debt. In the short-term, it leaves me in need of financial aid, because my upcoming position in teaching is more for resume building instead of being a salaried position. In the long-term, the value is high, because the program is far more affordable for Texas residents like myself, and I do not have to pay for room and board.

Degree: Educational Leadership
Graduation Year: 2014

Was very hesitant about an online program. Also worried that the affordability of the program would diminish the quality. Completely NOT the case at all. LOVE it! The courses have been relevant and applicable. Most assignments have been excellent application of the course material. Even online I have met a group of colleagues that are able to help and support one another as if we were on a campus together. Would highly recommend this program.

Degree: Teaching
Graduation Year: 2014

The education department is full of friendly staff and teachers. Everyone is very knowledgeable, and willing to help you whenever you need, with whatever you need. Most of the time, I learned without even knowing I was learning...which is, in my opinion, really cool. The folks here truly want you to succeed, and will teach you everything you need to know to get where you want to be.

Degree: School Counseling
Graduation Year: 2013

I love the cost and flexibility of the program. The classes are 5 weeks long and intensive. The faculty and resources are very helpful. The con of this program is to get a steady mentor for the internship/practicum course. Since this is an education course that needs to be completed in a school setting, finding a mentor can be tough. Overall, its a good program.

I really like working with Lamar University. It is an online program that is user-friendly. Professors and assistant professors are also very good in answering e-mails with questions. Readings, homework, group discussions, conferences are scheduled and very informative. Help is always available at all times. I have really enjoyed my journey studying online.

Degree: Instructional Technology
Graduation Year: 2104

I am a 57 year old graduate student. I am truly excited about the Educational Technology program. I use much of the information learned during the last four courses in my classroom and personal life. I am thankful for the opportunity to further my education online, as I work 40 hours per week.

Since I am not a student on campus a lot of the above do not apply to me. I am enjoying my classes and don't have any complaints.

I am a full time teacher and a single mom taking my Masters in Education online through Lamar University. I love the program, the staff, and the connection I have with all the students on our Facebook page. It is a very easy program to take and it is very helpful in my field.
