"NC Central's music program is a mainly centered in jazz. There isn't an overwhelming amount of faculty so this is a positive thing when being able to know new material. The ratio it has is with jazz, vocal jazz and big band. I believe any young musician trying to study there should prepare for the traditions of the school and also think about how much they know and want to know because all individuals that I met and the friendships and the degree that I came out with, provided me direction on improvisation and history in music."

"North Carolina Central University is a great institution. Being a student here has truly shaped me into the person that I am today, The BRITE program (at least when I was attending) is one of the smaller programs within the school, which made my experience amazing. Because of the smaller cohort, it was possible to get more one-on-one time with faculty members. Additionally, the program has their own in house tutoring and career services for students to utilize. If you ever feel that you are not receiving something that can improve in your education, living situation, in your extracurricular, etc. school officials will listen to your concerns and try their best to make something happen as soon as possible. The key is making sure that your voice be heard."

"The program is challenging not just in the means of the academia but in means of the staff and professors. The school is unorganized. I graduated in 2009 and still don't have a diploma with my name spelled correctly."

"NCCU school of law is a blessing . I love this law school. The faculty is extremely helpful. The school is diverse and everyone is extremely helpful. I appreciate the law school for having an evening program. The evening program allows working adults to achieve their academic goals to become advocates for justice."

"I attended the evening program at NCCU School of Law. The professors were, for the most part, extremely helpful, and there was a pretty decent variety of options for elective courses - especially if I was willing to attend in the late afternoon. There are excellent clinic options for pro bono real world experience, which is strongly encouraged. It was also extremely affordable and it has enriched my life immeasurably to attend law school at a HBCU. I'd highly recommend it for everyone."

"North Carolina Central University has allowed me great opportunities thus far. Coming from a predominantly white institution from undergraduate, I have never felt so empowered as an African American Female until I went to NCCU. Although I wish I would have attended and HBCU in undergraduate versus graduate in order to get the full "HBCU experience" I don't regret my choice to attend to pursue my graduate degree."

"I was a transfer student over to the college, and I entered in as a junior. I felt getting my Associates Degree from a community college first, and then transferring over was a great idea to save money. The school offered me a transfer scholarship that paid for my books each semester that I attended the school in the amount of $500. The financial aid department was very helpful. They helped me with getting extra money as well as advising me on taking out loans. By having my Associate's degree entering into school all of my classes were in the social work building, so I didn't engage with the other parts of the campus. The social work department was like my extended family they embraced me with love. The professors were very helpful and had a lot of useful knowledge for up and coming social workers. There were many volunteer opportunities in the community and on campus for students to participate in. The sororities that were on campus had a positive presence on campus. The clubs and organizations on campus were attentive to the student needs. The cafeteria food was excellent. In the cafeteria, the students had a variety of food choices. In the student union on campus, it had three restaurants located in there as well as a game room and bowling alley. I enjoyed my campus experienced. I recommended my sister to attend North Carolina Central University, and she said she is enjoying the on-campus experience."

"I feel that this institution prepared me for the real world. The smaller classes and the great relationships you build with your professors are critical for getting the extra attention and focus. The projects and level of graduate type of work that we had to do provided us with the tools required to be competitive in the IT world."

"I began attending North Carolina Central University in 2008. In 2010, after three years at the university I changed my major from Education to Spanish. The work was rigorous and I could almost never get in touch with my Education dept advisor when I needed them. Spanish was not much better. Most of the advisors for foriegn languages speak English as their second or third language, making communication an issue. I placed out of Elementary Spanish I, II, and III but could not find out how to take the necessary tests to get credit. By the time I got the info I needed, the tests no longer mattered. The Spanish degree program is run by a department chair whose primary fpcus is English. so she and her staff are practically useless to foreign language students. On the bright side, I highly recommend the office of Student Disability services, since they were great advocates and a wonderful relief and source of help when neeeded"

"My Bachelor's Program at NCCU was a good experience. Coming into the program I was very knowledgeable about IT from my overall interest in IT and the field so I was well prepared. The program is very broad so it allows you to find what path do you want to take and possibly make a career out of. The faculty in my program were really receptive; they work hard to make sure you are learning and helping you decide what you want to do in life before you leave college. Most of the courses that I took were hands-on and allowed for interaction with other students of various backgrounds and nationalities. Overall great experience."

"NCCU is an amazing school and like every other college in America it has its short comings but the pro's outweigh the con's at this HBCU.. Downside: surrounding area is a bit scary after dark it is what most people would consider the hood but during the day I have always felt very safe there is a strong police presence so in the end you are safe if you are cautious and use common sense. The library is not open 24/7..that is the only thing I don't like about the school. Bright spots: I can only speak for the departments that I have dealt with Psychology is awesome if you get the right teacher (every department has its crazy professors) Dr. Livingston and Dr. Cunningham are the top 2 teachers in the department if you get the chance to take one their classes do it. They actually care about what they are teaching you and in many cases they will bend over backwards to help you in and out of the classroom. The theater department is in my opinion the best department on campus we truly are a family. Which means that we have our spats and issues but at the end of the day we pull together to make sure the NCCU theater is a shining light in the Durham community. The last department that I can vouch for as positive is the music department ..although there are A LOT of egos in the end they also pull together to truly make NCCU proud no matter where we go. Overall NCCU is awesome and we are continuing to soar high with our first permanent female chancellor leading the way to a bright and promising future."

"There is a serious lack of communication in regards to the joint degree programs. It's as if they offer a degree that they know nothing about. The overall experience is not as bad, but when you need information, you are pretty much on your own. The school staff in the library department are friendly, helpful, and willing to extend a hand when necessary."

"The evening program at NCCU is highly competitive! NCCU students are provided support to ensure academic success, the professors are accessible and helpful, and the technology available is top notch! Overall, they offer a quality education and the possibility for networking not found in many other institutions. The only con would probably be the surrounding area...as is the case with many educational institutions, they are not positioned in the best area, but the srcurity guards are ever present to ensure our safety."
