Degree: Counseling
Graduation Year: 2015

Northcentral University is a completely online program. Therefore, factors like Affordability of Living, Campus Safety, Social Life and Surrounding Area really don't apply. However, when I didn't rate them, the school didn't score as highly as I thought they should. It's a great program, and the staff and mentors have been wonderful to work with!

Northcentral pros would be that the online technology support is very efficient and easy to use. The classes are easy to follow with the support of a GREAT virtual library with a wealth of resources. The cons would be that there is not enough financial support for working students in this tough economy. There are no scholarships offered, private scholarships offered or discounts for students in various professions.

Degree: Educational Leadership
Graduation Year: 2016

I have spent most of my career working with and teaching international students in 35 countries. Now, with a degree in International education, I will be able to find a teaching career in university and help prepare the nations next generation of teachers. I will have to get used to doing this online, so that will be challenging for me.

As this is a 100% online program, much of what was asked to rate in the survey will be the responsibility of the student i.e. campus safety, surrounding areas, transportation and social life. In addition, NCU is revamping their student management system to incorporate much more features and better was to connect with students and faculty in our places of residence. Pros for NCU: (a) 100% online program with access to full time faculty; (b) develops your time management skills, balancing personal, academic and professional responsibility; (c) helps you achieve your career goals by having mentors rather than professors and academic advisors to guide and support you during each of your courses; (d) NCU library with ample resources i.e. videos, articles etc. and (e) NCU works with your degree program to curtail it to what you need in order to attain goals i.e. offer classes for license requirements of various states. Cons for NCU: (a) no live or online lectures and (b) has not yet implemented the social network where NCU students in our local area can connect.

My experience at NCU has been positive. The mentors have been responsive and seem to be knowledgeable. The curriculum is rigorous and comprehensive. I have conferred with several of my colleagues from brick and mortar institutions and confirmed that we are using the same texts and working on the same types of assignments.

The pros of the program is the fact that it is offered online. The cons of the program include the disconnect between some instructors and students, the variability in grading, and lack of consistency in rubrics, grading, and course syllabi.

As an online program, many of these categories do not apply to Northcentral University. That said, the programs are both nationally and regionally accredited, and the school has made it a goal to convert all faculty to possessing doctorates. This, I believe, greatly enhances the value of an NCU doctoral degree. The workload is appreciable, and is changing to reflect a more interactive, social experience between faculty and students. Currently, the school uses only an internal e-mail system, so I had to use my employer's email to register for the scholarship. NCU may be reached at info@ncu.edu.

Personally, I enjoy that the entire campus is online and that I never have to set foot on a campus. I also enjoy that I can do all of the learning whenever and however I best learn as long as I have the homework in by the due date. The staff and professors are eager and happy to help whenever I need it. My professor stays in touch and doesn't let me fall behind. This school is affordable and the Financial Aid people are nice and explain everything. I have not encountered any cons yet.
