I have enjoyed this grad program. It has challenged me to become a great therapist. This program has pushed me to want to be great in my field of study & offer great support to my future clients. I have learned something from every course taken.

It's a completely online course with one on one teachers

This is one of the most "military-friendly" programs that I have found. The staff is very friendly and responsive when needed. The workload is not overbearing, yet the content is relevant and interesting. Many of my fellow Marines are going to school here, and I highly recommend it.

My program is strictly online. Therefore, questions regarding transportation, campus safety, and surrounding areas are not applicable. Since there was no option in the survey for N/A, I rated those categories low. I am very satisfied with the program, mentors, administrative support. I feel confident that when the PhD is conferred, I will have many career options. Unfortunately, the university does not offer scholarships (to my knowledge). As a result, I have federal loans. Even though these loans are deferred, the amount of debt adversely affects my credit rating. Therefore, I am seeking grants and scholarships to help me pay these loans.

Degree: Marriage & Family Therapy
Graduation Year: 2015

Northcentral University is one of only two COAMFTE-accredited distance learning programs in Marriage and Family Therapy (and it was the first to gain that status) and it's rigorous coursework ranks it among the most competitive on-campus schools. However, I think our faculty access is better, because we are usually just one click away (and we have all our professors' Skype IDs so we know when they are online) from getting access to our professors and clinical supervisor for their guidance. I think I've worked harder in this program than I have at any on-campus program, but I feel that I received the training I needed to become an excellent therapist.

Being that the program is online it leaves a lot to desire. We will have to see when we take the National Exams and seek to work in our field the value of the education.

Some teachers stride to help others seem racist and purposely attempts to sabotage you.

I am enrolled in the online college so some of the questions didn't pertain to my situation. However though this is an online University I find it is not lacking in social support and utilizes multiple forms of social media and technology to include all it's students from around the country. The academic staff and professors are friendly, out going, and supportive.

I like NCU. The teachers, advisers, and other staff are always helpful. Also, course content is thorough and relevant to course topics. The con is probably of any online program is the ability to socialize. However NCU created a portal where students can talk to each other. It helps but it doesn't equal the ability to talk to people directly in classes and such. Other than that I'm really enjoying the university, my program, and all that I'm learning. I would strongly suggest NCU for those who want the convenience of online, but also a high quality education.

The online PhD program at Northcentral University is 100% online and almost 100% self study. While each class has a one-on-one faculty mentor, the student is responsible for doing all the readings, research, and paper writing independently. If you are expecting faculty members who are actively involved in your future career, NCU is not the right online program for you. NCU faculty is 90% adjunct so the faculty are not committed to your individual success. While many of the faculty members are good, they are not great with average professional backgrounds and often their backgrounds do not fit the course that they are mentoring. Due to the nature of the NCU online program, the university is not supportive of student feedback and request for futher input/feedback from faculty. It's a good program if you are limited by time and location to do an on the ground PhD program, but if you are looking for faculty and university leadership committed to your success, I recommend that you not pursue NCU for your PhD or DBA.
