Northcentral University online is a self-teaching environment, in which the student's only interaction is with the person who grades the assignments. There is no interaction with other students in a classroom environment. The mentor/instructor who oversees the student's activities communicates through comments on the graded assignments. Most mentor/instructors are available by e-mail or phone but e-mail reply times can vary. This means questions a student has may not be answered in time for the next assignment. Northcentral does offer a graduate specialization in Gender Diversity, unlike many other educational institutes, but the program information is unclear on whether additional courses must be taken for certification in this specialization. Prospective students should be aware that they are completely on their own when it comes to their education. Students can only get as much from their classes as they teach themselves. This can be a drawback for students who need or want to hear what classmates and instructors have to add to their learning experience because there are no discussion threads or learning teams. The academic advisors and financial advisors at Northcentral University are capable and knowledgeable, in most instances. The cost of classes at Northcentral University is comparable, overall, to other similar online universities. Northcentral University online does not offer their own scholarships, which should be a consideration for students needing financial assistance. Overall, I would suggest prospective students evaluate their learning style before committing to a self-taught university. If a student wants to interact with other students and instructors, Northcentral University is probably not right for them.

The graduate program is an excellent program. The mentorship style of learning is great. The professors are accessible and encouraging. It is top notch and the best online program which I have ever been involved.

This program is totally online, so some of these questions were non-applicable, but I gave the 10 stars, because without a grade in the non-applicable areas- it would not accurately reflect my estimation of Northcentral U. overall.

I feel that online learning is the wave of the future. It's easy and practical for those that already have other committments. Northcentral makes it easy.

Not having instant access to speak with my professor if I'm having an issue with the assignment.

First, the categories I left blank only apply to a brick-and-mortar college. I started NCU in September 2012 and have progressed steadily through the course. The pros are the mentors are good and the student works on-on-one with an assigned mentor. My learning style lends itself to this type of delivery. The student website is ok and IT support is pretty good. I haven't had a bad experience yet at NCU and I have one class to go before comps. What I will say is that students have to take charge of their studying and learning. There is an assignment due every week so don't wait until the weekend to begin. I have been in other doctoral programs before and have had my fair share of "fluff" courses. At NCU, there was only one course that was sort of "fluffy", but all others were rigorous - one or two were almost too much but I made it through. In all, I have thoroughly enjoyed NCU and am looking forward to comps and dissertation.

Northcentral University provides the exact applied doctorate program in which I am interested, and completely online. The professors I have had so far are highly encouraging and the courses are designed with just the right amount of challenge. Of course, studying online does not give you the opportunity to interact face-to-face with your professors or fellow students. However, online programs provide you with the opportunity to study anywhere, including outside the U.S.

NCU is an online community. It's campus is in Arizona and I live in Florida. Some comments were not able to be graded, but I'm sure it is just as well as other colleges.
