"As a young educator looking for a way to support my school in a different way, I searched for an advanced degree program which would not only provide me with the curriculum, resources and support to achieve my goal, but also one that was flexible in terms of schedule and location, and one that was affordable. In NEIU, I found all of that and more. Throughout the program, I felt I was participating in work and discussions that were going to be practically applied in my future positions. I also found an incredibly dedicated faculty and staff, who were interested in my success. I actually was hired into a leadership position before graduating with my Master's Degree in Educational Administration, and after my graduation, was honored to become part of the program's advisory board. Through that work, I have seen the program which was the foundation of my career in school and district leadership become even more effective and even more impactful than it was when I was there. The university's partnerships with local districts, its commitment to staying on top of current issues in education, its diverse and passionate groups of students and faculty, make it a perfect fit for any educator looking to be a highly effective instructional leader. I fully recommend this program and when I am able, I try to hire those who have been taken advantage of it."

"I am a Counseling graduate student at Northeastern Illinois University. The Counselor Education program offers 4 counseling programs: Family Therapy, Clinical Mental Health, Rehabilitation Therapy, and School Counseling. I am in the Family Therapy program. Northeastern may be inexpensive, but that is not a reflection of the value of this program. This program has exceeded my expectations by far! It IS very hard work with very caring and knowledgeable professors who do extensive research and practice as therapists outside of class. The program emphasizes a multicultural awareness in future counselors and is very accessible. for people of all backgrounds. This program is CACREP accredited and prepares one for licensure in the state of Illinois (plus CACREP can increase portability between states)."

"This program was affordable and the professors helped us all the way through the program. I can honestly say that with an internship in Chicago Public Schools the real-world approach was applied. Also, the school is diverse with students from all walks of life and educational careers majoring in leadership."

"Northeastern is the perfect place to get a degree. The multiple locations in the Chicago area make it convenient. The professors are fair and knowledgeable. They all are either still working in the field or recently retired professionals. They prepare you for what’s next. Not only do you gain the necessary knowledge for leadership but they support you in your job searches and for the rest of your cart. The tuition is fair as well and doesn’t leave you saddled with a ton of debt at the end. Anyone looking to advance their career in Education should give Northeastern a serious look."

"I highly recommend the NEIU Educational Leadership program! I have used the knowledge from all of my courses to succeed as an educational leader who advocates for children. My NEIU relationships with peers and professors helped get me to the next level in my career, and are partnerships I still treasure today. Best decision of my career! You will feel very prepared to become an administrator after completing this program."

"The NEIU Educational Leadership program was excellent at preparing me for the job of school administrator. In the program I was coached in the interview process, which helped me to secure a job that I desired. The courses taught me about school law and finances, management, and human resources. As a high school division head, I use skills from all of these courses frequently. Professors were area administrators (principals, superintendents, etc.) that served as real life liaison's to the administrative world. They shared personal experiences and helped me to realize that I was ready to take the "leap" into administration. I truly enjoyed the program."

"I received a Board of Governors/BA in English with a Linguistics. I really enjoyed my time here! I hard wonderful professors who taught me, most importantly, how to think. I spent two semesters pregnant and my professors worked with me to allow me to finish my classes each time. It is a commuter school, but the neighborhood around it is decent. Highly recommended."

"positives: quality education from teachers who care (almost all of them), one of the most affordable in Chicago, located outside the city, but transit is free for full time students, most students have full time jobs, its very diverse, its not really an echo chamber, it's safe on campus with officers always on patrol, there are many computers and study locations, there are many clubs and events (i use to appropriate funds to them), teachers are usually easily accessible, good class sizes, night classes are available and helpful to working students, free gym and pool, engaging classes negatives: the advising is difficult to maneuver (HAVE A GAME PLAN AND CONFIRM IT WITH SEVERAL ADVISORS AS OFTEN AS NEEDED), can be difficult to find the perfect schedule (but you can register early if you're on student govt or get good grades), on campus housing is very close and convenient but strict as its run by a private company, graduation rate is bad stay inspired, try a little to get decent grades, and you'll always find help. even a liberal arts degree can get you a job! im proof of that. months before i graduate i have a good paying job in korea lined up. make a rough plan and reevaluate it every semester/year. for the value, neiu is a top notch public university. would recommend to anyone trying to find a purpose. it saved my life."

"The computer science program at NEIU is really not good. The intro Java courses aren't bad. The Algorithms courses are okay. But the rest of the program is terrible. The graduate web course throws you into HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and Bootstrap--all in just one semester! And then when that course is over the student is NEVER required to do any web programming again, which means of course that everything you learned that semester will be quickly forgotten. (And learning all that content in one semester is outrageous. The graduate web programming course should get split into two separate semesters.) Most profs in the CS program will tell you that you don't need any math prerequisites. That is a big lie! If you haven't at least minored in math you will definitely struggle with Algorithms, Informatics, Artificial Intelligence & Robotics, and at least one or two other classes. They claim to be a Java-heavy department. Another lie. After the prerequisites for the program are satisfied you will probably do very little Java programming. So if you want to get Oracle certified in Java, don't study computer science at Northeastern Illinois University!!!! One professor there kept telling me, "That's a great question, Douglas. Why don't you Google it?" That's just lazy teaching as far as I'm concerned. Another professor there teaches a lot of graduate IT courses, and he is a completely incompetent nightmare. (I guess I'm not allowed to name names here, so I will refrain from doing so.) This guy only teaches on Saturdays. He is horrible. He wastes valuable class time criticizing his colleagues in the department, and then expects students to memorize hundreds of PowerPoint slides for his quizzes and tests. He gives assignments without clearly explained how to do those assignments. And he wastes an enormous amount of time talking about his own work experience, as if students really care about that. My computer security class was a joke. The lady who taught it was pleasant and easy to chat with, but just very lazy. She does a lot of fund-raising for the department, but the problem is that she doesn't do any real teaching! She depends on advanced students in the class teaching less advanced classmates. This is just very LAZY teaching! And also very typical of what you will find at Northeastern Illinois University. NEIU's computer science program is just terrible. When you leave the program you'll only have an introduction to the field. If you want to really become a professional developer you will have to do a great deal of work on your own after graduating from this substandard academic program. Stay away! If you want a degree in CS, look elsewhere. Find another school. It may cost you more money, but in the long run it might be worth it. The CS program at NEIU is very disorganized. It won't help you to become a professional developer if that's what you really want to do after graduation. Stay away! It's a terrible program. I don't recommend it."

"What I enjoyed most about Northeastern were the professors. In my classes there were a variety of student demographics and often many of the students were at different levels. That never stopped my professors from pushing me to be the greatest I could be. They would always give me extra help or information when I needed it. The research labs are also intriguing because the professors really put their time into helping students excel. The Annual Research Symposium was always amazing and was a great event to be a part of as an undergraduate student. Sometimes, I wish that the institution itself was more organized. I had to fend for myself often. The advisors did not know what classes fulfill our majors and I ended up taking more general education classes that were not needed when I could have taken an interesting class towards my major. In addition, I had to do my own research for connections when I wanted to shadow various doctors. The school did not provide many resources for students who wanted to study beyond their school. Unfortunately due to the budget, the school also was not kept very clean towards my last semester. I know this was due to many of the custodians being laid off, but I felt that this affected the quality of my program. The chemistry and biology rooms became unorganized and often unsafe. Chemicals were left out that should have been refrigerated and teachers did not have the counter space to work on experiments. Northeastern has the potential to be great if the institution would fix these problems."

"I loved my program and professors. They were very knowledgeable and up to date on current trends. In term of school counseling, however, I wish there had been more specialized courses for that field. I believe they have added more now, though. The program was affordable and accredited. Also, the staff really was helpful in walking up through and helping with the licensing and certification processes."

"Northeastern University was one of my top choices for the Master's in Accounting Program. The program is 8 months long and is intensive. During the summer months the classes are three days a week for 8 hrs. Although it was an intensive program, the teachers prepare you to sit for the CPA and advise you on your future career and what to expect. All the teachers have worked at the big 4 and are extremely knowledgeable in their field."

"I am in the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T) in Language Arts: Elementary Education program. This program is for students with a B.A. in a field other than teaching but wants to pursue a teaching career. When I complete the program, I would have a K-9 licensure, a Masters degree, and a middle school endorsement."

"Northeastern Illinois University was definitely an affordable university, which gave me the luxury of not graduating with an insurmountable amount of debt. This is definitely one of those schools where your success is contingent on the effort you make. In my area of study, I was fortunate to have professors with ivy league experience and whom had a lot of great advice to offer. I felt like I could talk to any of my professors at any given time, which I was incredibly grateful for. It is a small college, but that does not take away the quality of education you can receive from there."

"Northeastern Illinois University is an excellent school, providing knowledgeable and caring administrative staff, excellent instructors, and a diverse student population which encouraged a variety of perspectives which led to an exciting classroom experience. The Inner City Studies program included a historical perspective on the background and development of the individuals and groups living in urban areas. The program provided coursework, textbooks, and additional readings which allowed the student to explore family issues, political agendas, and the impact of crime; all major contributors to the current state of the inner city. The program was especially successful as it encouraged the adult students to explore research in individual areas of interest, while facilitating group learning."

"Northeastern Illinois University has a very large diverse body of students. I believe that this is one unit which shapes our university in a beautiful way. There are so many organizations and opportunities to meet new people of race, religions and so much more. The diversity offered at this school has brought thousands of wonderful things to our university.Northeastern Illinois university does offer many internship opportunities to students in a number of different facilities, schools and organizations. Northeastern is paired with a few organizations which allows students of a specific major complete their community hours as well as their wish to intern. Hence, NEIU is constantly having career and job fairs on a daily basis which allows students, like my self, to explore new options. Northeastern Illinois university not only offers a great variety of classes each semester, but it gives students incredible professors who enjoy teaching on a daily basis and watching their students grow. My experience these past couple of years has been beyond words. My classes were picked due to my major prerequisites and we're all fairly sized with or student body. I took five classes a semester and In each class, the professor had the ability to motivate and help each and every individual, including myself in a acceptable manor."
