Degree: Counseling
Graduation Year: 2016

I feel that I have selected the best program for becoming a Doctor of Counselor Education and Supervision (CES). The quality of class work, research, teaching, counseling, advocacy, leadership and supervision CORE areas are outstanding. This program has been noted as the best graduate master and doctoral programs within the state of Illinois and within the American Counseling Association. The staff continues to have current and past presidents with the local state and national counseling organizations. It's program is very competitive, but doable. The con is cost of living is VERY high along with tuition and fees.. Transportation is horrible, but in order to get the best education these are the scarifies you must make. As a person of color there will and can be challenges on a campus where the majority are people of non color, but again the quality of education and having a CACREP program is noted as one of the BEST in the field. I am happy with my time, money and life here at Northern Illinois University, because I am getting the BEST education in a CACREP doctoral program in Illinois.

Through the Joliet NIU cohort, I have had a wonderful experience in my graduate studies. The location and comfort are perfect for my family and profession.

Degree: Teaching
Graduation Year: 2015

I feel that the course work is on the leading edge, both important, current and applicable to Illinois school districts. Coming from a small liberal arts college as an undergraduate, the transition to a large campus was a little challenging; staff has been harder to get a hold of and less responsive. I've had no help with financial planning and have tried to contact the graduate advisors several times with no response. Professors are generally helpful and more easily contacted. Their alumni network is extensive as is their career services office--definitely a bonus to the program.

Degree: Organizational Leadership
Graduation Year: 2015

Northern Illinois University has provided me with the tools necessary to succeed in the business world. The education and the leadership skills that I have acquired here are like any other. Many of the professors that I have had a chance to be taught under were well qualified for their positions and allowed me to excel through hard work and dedication to material. The classrooms reflect an actual and real business setting. It has been nothing less than a stellar experience for me.

Do not live on campus so I do not have much input with regards to the campus life. Online courses are flexible and a great tool for the program.

I consider the program that I am currently enroll at NIU is one of the best that I had ever taken. The work load is big but all the reflections are tied to what it will be experience in the future as administrators. I love the support I get from the professors and their kindness and understanding. It is not easy to go to school and have a full time job but some how they try to make it reasonable for everybody.
