I really liked that our cohort was small and we were able to form real relationships with each other and the professors. I feel like there was quite a bit of personal growth beyond the knowledge aspect of the program. It was fairly expensive due to its' being a private school (50-60k), but the length was reasonable (18 months) and the program was tailored to working adults.

The teachers are the biggest pro. They are professional, knowledgeable, supportive and organized. The weekly ability to watch actual therapy is one of the biggest reasons I selected PGU. It's learning you can't get from any book! The campus is nice and in a good neighborhood. Peers are a positive experience and the quality of the education is high. I'm really glad I chose Phillips Graduate University!

Phillips Graduate Institute is an excellent institution to pursue a graduate degree. The staff is extremely supportive and accommodating. It is easy and convenient to contact professors, financial aid, and registrar. This campus also has a writing lab that assists students with academic writing. Academically speaking, the assignments and exams are reasonable and there is not any type of busy work. That is, all of the assignments clearly fit in with the curriculum. Additionally, as a marriage and family therapy student I am required to earn practicum hours. To help with this, the school has an on site counseling center that students may be able to work in if they choose to not find placement elsewhere. However, one con of this graduate program is that the career options are not explained. That is to say, when choosing your program (i.e marriage and family therapy versus school psychology) the school does not explain what degrees are necessary for certain jobs after graduation.

PGI has an incredible MFT program. It's academically rigorous, but with a special component of therapy observation throughout the first year that really sets it apart from other programs. The teachers are incredible-- knowledgeable, professional, helpful. It's a safe campus and it's a very well structured program; a very organized administrative support team. I looked at many MFT programs, but knew when I looked into this program that it was what I wanted. I feel really fortunate to have found PGI!

This is an incredible program, and if you let it it will change your life. But tuition costs are pretty extreme and they don't have many scholarship opportunities, especially for enrolled students. The faculty are absolutely top-notch and currently work in the field they are teaching. They are knowledgeable and supportive.

Phillips is a very high quality educational institution with experiential learning and available supportive faculty. It is a small private school with no on campus housing. The alumni organization is very active and beneficial. The student population is mainly female, from many age groups and ethnicities. The atmosphere is one of understanding and mutual support among the students as well as the faculty. There is no competitive spirit. I recommend Phillips if you want a superior education, not if you are looking for a mate.

The con of PGI is the distance from my home. The pros out way the two to three hour drive from my home. The pros start with they offer a wide variety of psychology graduate and doctorate degrees. They have a smaller environment with faculty who value your knowledge and are readily available to help you. I feel safe at school with well lit areas and security guards wandering about. The program is one of kind for the area and has hands on application learning accenting lectures and readings.
