"The money is the program isn't really distributed equally. The undergraduate students have much higher and more scholarship opportunities. The faculty are very hit-or-miss; some are great, others aren't. There's a lack of transparency in the school, and it often becomes bureaucratic trying to make useful changes."

"What's great about this program is that the faculty members are extremely supportive and understanding. They will do all that they can to help you succeed in your career. I highly recommend this program. You will learn alot and you will leave school super prepared for what's out there."

"The networking in the school of social work is excellent. Since Syracuse is a rather small community, many professionals know each other."

"The program itself is a very well structured and engaging program. The faculty are all very passionate about the work that they do and the research they are a part of. The school itself is not very diverse and does not cater to the needs of underrepresented minority students like myself."

"Great campus with a great business school, but Syracuse and Upstate NY in general don't offer many opportunities for advancement"

"Not so many competitive research professors; Parking is a huge problem; Campus near downtown which is not safe; Have to work for department through out the entire process, extremely time consuming"

"I enjoy being in the classroom setting, but I do not feel very challenged by classmates. Socially, it is more difficult if you have taken time off between undergraduate school and law school. I'm still deciding whether going to law school in general was a good choice. Financially, it is a huge commitment that you should not make unless you are 100% dedicated to the course of study and career path."

"This program has a vibrant study abroad/international focus and the faculty consists of very educated and enthusiastic scholars. The overall academic environment was friendly and quite conducive to learning and a quite stimulating package of courses was offered. The only con is that Maxwell School appears quite isolated from the main political centers (especially Washington DC), but I applaud its efforts to ensure that students get the full experience of working in such policy hubs by providing both academic and professional opportunities for students in DC and other locations such as Geneva, Switzerland."

"Some of my program’s cons are that the cost of attendance is much more then the starting salary in the surrounding area. One pro to my program is that it is well known in the area and very reputable."

"Very diverse department means you are exposed to many different research approaches, but can also feel isolating if there aren't other labs doing the same work you are. Fantastic facilities, competitive stipends (but requires you TA every semester unless you have outside funding like an NSF GRF), low cost of living in the city. Extremely supportive and approachable faculty and department leadership. Shared facilities / course availability with SUNY Upstate Medical and SUNY Environmental Sciences and Forestry are huge plus."

"My graduate program facilitates personal growth and academic excellence. If the surrounding community wasn't so bad and the cost of school wasn't as high, I would recommend this program to everyone."

"I would not have gone from living in a warm sunshine year around city, if it wasn't for the quality of education, support from faculty and staff that SUCOL has for its students. I am a city girl living in this big town, the surrounding area gets very frustrating but I know it will be worth it upon graduation day."
