"Overall, I feel that TTUHSC provided me with an excellent education, gave me ample opportunity to pursue my passions, and created a culture of amazing supportive peers that made medical school enjoyable."

"I am graduating in 2015 from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and have been accepted into the General Surgery Residency Program at UT Southwestern in Dallas, TX. PROS: I truly enjoyed my medical school experience at TTUHSC and feel like I am well-trained and very prepared for residency. The faculty were great - very approachable, focused on teaching and always available to answer questions. My fellow students were also great - strong students and very well-rounded. We all enjoyed hanging out outside of school and had frequent social functions. We mostly competed with ourselves in terms of grades. (You will always get out of it what you put into it!) Everyone was always willing to share notes and help each other out. It was definitely a team-oriented culture. The curriculum at TTUHSC was very well organized. They teach in block units - just focusing on one subject at a time (instead of having an exam week of multiple subjects like in college). This was very helpful, and I feel like I was able to thoroughly learn the material in a way I could retain it. I am a slow reader and I take awhile to digest the material. Nevertheless, I felt TTUHSC provided adequate self-study time, allowing me to do well on the boards. TTUHSC administrative services were also great - very friendly, walked us through every requirement during med school, and were prompt with their services. They put together strong application packets for us as we applied for residency. They listen to our feedback and implement improvements quickly. Another pro is the tuition is VERY affordable, much cheaper than my undergraduate degree. I have minimal student loans compared to students in other parts of the country. It is very cheap to live in west Texas too. CONS: The location - Lubbock, TX is out in the middle of west Texas, 5 hours away from Dallas and other major cities. It is a college town, which was fun in itself. I played on multiple intramural sports teams at the undergraduate rec center and there are plenty of fun bars around the university. It was a fun medical school experience, but I am ready to be back in the city. Another con would be that we have multiple campuses (Amarillo, Midland/Odessa, Lubbock) where they split us up for our 3rd and 4th years of med school. TTUHSC does their best to ensure the same experience for everyone, but unavoidably, each campus has their inherent strengths and weaknesses. You will get a great education and great training at each campus, but it is mostly sad because you form great friendships during the first 2 years in Lubbock and don't get to see your fellow students as much. Also, there are not some residency programs at Amarillo and Midland/Odessa campuses, which could be a disadvantage as far as exposure goes. This can be overcome by rotating on the Lubbock campus (which has every core residency program) during your 4th year. I was assigned to the Amarillo campus and absolutely loved it, but there was not a surgical residency program there. I simply did away rotations at other institutions during my 4th year to gain this experience. You can request which campus you want, but you may not be granted your request. Hopefully this helps. I cannot speak highly enough about my medical school experience. TTUHSC will provide great training in an enjoyable, team-oriented environment. If I had to do it all over again, I would still choose to go to TTUHSC for medical school. I could not have asked for a better medical school experience."

"Great school, academics, and students. People are extremely friendly and always willing to help. I liked it so much I will start residency at the same hospital! We consistently get competitive residencies at the top programs across the US and have an excellent board pass rate."

"Amazing school! The faculty are incredible and always available. I can't say enough about the welcoming environment that I experienced during my four years of medical school. This is a program that genuinely cares about it's students well-being and career goals. If you want to become an outstanding physician TTUHSC is a great place to acquire the skills needed."

"I love the program because of the fantastic staff and faculty that are easily accessible. The class was well picked, and we all work really well together. I love the program, the curriculum, and the opportunities that the school provides us in community service. However, we are a satellite campus, and we do not get the luxury of the main campus with the libraries. We are in Midland, Texas, which is very expensive and almost unaffordable to live alone. Other than that, I love my school and future profession."

"I am a first year OT student and have enjoyed attending Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center's Master of Occupational Therapy program. One of the courses that you take your first semester is graduate-level anatomy. While this class is intense, I feel like it gave us a good foundation for going into a medical profession. We also use the material learned in this course in our other classes. One of the downsides to the program is its location in Lubbock, TX, but I feel like the program keeps us pretty busy with our classes and there's lots of opportunities to get involved with Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) activities and intramural sports."

"Pro: becoming a PA! Student's aren't ranked in this program, so teamwork and helping each other out is encouraged. The academics are still very competitive, but you don't have to worry about people going behind your back, giving incorrect information, or being cutthroat. The faculty is very friendly, helpful, and easy to talk to. Con: It's in Midland, TX. I have grown to love Midland because the people here are so kind and caring, but Midland is pretty far away from other cities in Texas. Also, because of the oil boom, it's really expensive to live here, right now."

"The graduate program has been challenging but exactly what I hoped for in an institution that is going to prepare me for my career in healthcare. The professors are extremely helpful and respectful to all students. I am grateful to be in a graduate program that satisfies my intelligence and charismatic personality."

"Overall a very strong program that adequately prepares students entering into the pharmacy field. Particularly, a large emphasis is placed on the clinical side of pharmacy enabling the students to succeed in the future"

"I really enjoy living and attending school in Lubbock. It really is a big city with a small town feel. I completed my undergrad here as well and have never been in a more friendly environment, with the city and the school employees. Teachers here really go the extra mile to make sure you understand the information taught. Especially, in the health related fields. The only con that has affected me is the distant from home and other major cities. Other than that I have never had a terrible experience here at Texas Tech, and given the option I would choose the program over and over again."

"My specific program, the Master;s of Occupational Therapy, offers great mentoring from my professors and program director. Also, at the Health Sciences Center, inter-professionalism is highly emphasized, which creates a great atmosphere for networking and to understand what each health profession does, as we will be working with different disciplines in the future."

"This program was meant to be a stepping stone to one day get into medical school and is has lived up to every ounce of it. I felt like I was part of the medical school as far as the social life and academic stresses that all would come with being an actual medical school. As a student in this program you are taking the same classes alongside the medical students. I felt this program has given me a good indicator that I would be able to not only be able to handle medical school but to succeed as well. The only draw backs I have about the program would be the location. Lubbock is a hard area to live in if you come from a big city. The nearest big city is about a five hour drive away. Being isolated here does have it's advantages though. It really does make you study!"

"The audiology program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center has incredibly affordable tuition rates which is great. Sometimes I wish the program was harder because an easy program creates complacent students. I feel as though I worked harder for my Bachelor's degree than for my doctorate which is disheartening because I feel as though it retracts from any rewarding feelings one should have when receiving a post-graduate degree."

"The Strength and Conditioning program and Texas Tech University offers me an opportunity to get ahead of my competition when it comes to getting a job later down the road. The downside of it all, and it goes for most degree programs, its costs money to make it through. I am currently employed as an RA under two professors. I am contemplating working a third job just so I can keep my fiance and I afloat."
