"There is some very innovative work in this program and a lot of effort to support PhD students through it."

"The pros are that it's small, personalized, filled with amazing faculty, and the tuition is fairly cheap. The cons are its in Austin, which although a nice city, is ridiculously expensive. There is also not a lot of funding available."

"The college of Pharmacy at UT Austin ranks 4th in the country. The graduate program in Pharmacology and Toxicology is one of the very few programs in the country that has a very well rounded curriculum. Also, it is quite flexible in terms of the various courses a student can take in other departments like at the Institute of molecular biology and Natural Sciences. They provide funding to all the graduate students either in the form of Graduate Assistant or a TA. The course load is ok. The professors are excellent and the research they do is really innovative. Austin is a great place to live. The campus is very friendly and safe. The cost of living is moderate. The only con about this program is that it is highly competitive. The weather is a bit harsh and extreme in summers and winters."

"There's not always 100% transparency in what's needed in (or how to go about starting) the next step of your academic career, but that's being remedied with the newer trajectory plans. The department listens to its graduate students, and it tries to address their concerns as best as possible."

"This program is highly competitive and you will learn an enormous amount of very complex information very quickly. There are obviously some pros and cons associated with this style of learning. It can be extremely stressful but in the end you will be glad you made it and you will most likely be amazed at how far you have come. What else can you say about a top 10 program? :)"

"It is difficult for me to compare my experience with other grad schools, since I've only gone to this one. But from my personal experience I can recommend the University of Texas at Austin as its teaching and research faculty & facilities are excellent."

"I think our program is one of the best among pharmaceutical science programs in the US. It provides us with all kind of support towards acquiring the degree. The work load is OK. The funding is limited, but it seems to be the general case in UT."

"Although I feel that the program offers a comprehensive overview of a breadth of fields (the program is very supportive of collaboration), I often feel like faculty members are spread too thin and overworked. It makes it difficult to feel supported when it comes down to planning real projects and getting feedback. But the intentions are definitely there and I can appreciate that. Austin is such a fun and welcoming city overall, and the cost of living is a proportion of other grad program cities I was considering. Overall, I'm very happy :)"

"Pros: the faculty whose research reputation is impressive and internationally acclaimed. The classes are incredibly varied and the opportunities to do whatever you want is a great plus. Cons: there are some recent changes going through at the College level, so, it's not necessarily a con, but things are in flux at the moment."

"I have just started a PhD program in Classics, and I have been nothing but pleased with the opportunities afforded to me in terms of professional development. As someone who has had no teaching experience, I have been guided very well into a comfortable style of instruction in only a few weeks."

"UT is truly a Research I institution, so even the faculty in area studies do a lot of research, and many of the professors in Middle Eastern Studies are devoted to teaching as well. The main cons are the stressful workload and lack of support for career development. I feel discouraged from asking for advice about careers in academia, or alt-ac careers."

"This is a good program. Faculty here are very nice and willing to help students. They are also well prepared their courses. But the courses here are intense. Students here will spend much time on courses, so less time for research."

"Overall, I haven't been too happy with UtTs phd program. Although there are great researchers here, the administration is horrible and the program is not run very well. The stipend is very low relative to other comparable programs. The support for graduate students isn't great either. One positive thing about the program is the course requirements are extremely light."
