"While medical school is always a challenge, my program offers a high amount of support and materials to better prepare me for the next steps in my career. In addition, there are international opportunities not found in other graduate programs. I believe the cons mostly surround the cost of living and traffic that comes with living in a big city."

"I am just transferring over to this college from University of Texas at El Paso. Thus far the graduate office has been great at assisting me with the program options and transferrable course. The online system is also very good and user friendly."

"The Aesthetic Studies program at UT Dallas is revolutionary. UT Dallas stands alone in providing an option for visual artists to pursue a doctorate. The creative dissertation provides an opportunity to explore ones work within a historical context, while pushing to produce relevant, thought-provoking work. I am grateful for my time there, and would recommend it to anyone. The only downside is the cost of tutition keeps rising."

"Excellent program in terms of academic program design, career preparation, faculty accessibility, and student body competition/support. Tuition is high and scholarships/aid are difficult to come by. The workload is high but manageable; unfortunately, the academic load makes it very difficult to maintain employment. The COMD program is about 99% female, which is common in the field, but forces me to give a low rating for "diversity." Very glad I was admitted to this program but not looking forward to the student debt!"

"Pros: -Accessible, helpful faculty -Great networking opportunities -Coursework that challenges you to be a better clinician -Access to vast clinical population and opportunities (near UT Southwestern med school, several hospitals, schools, other universities) Cons: -At graduate campus, surrounding area somewhat run-down -Grad campus itself needs renovation"

"The Neuroscience MS program at UTD is comprehensive. Yet the diversity of current classes is not very broad if you already have a prior degree in Neuroscience. I did my undergrad here as well, and was force to retake many of the classes I had taken as an undergrad (General Basic NSC classes. There is no Thesis required, instead there are 6 credit hours of internship time required. Therefore, although the research opportunities are great here, the quality of experience you gain in experimental design and execution is left to the quality of the lab you join. Overall I like the program but do wish there was more hands on curriculum."

"I love the professors--they're great resources and always accessible. The library isn't a research facility, but it's still useful, and the interlibrary loan and ebook availability sweetens the deal."

  • Degree: Mechanical Engineering
"The graduate mechanical engineering program was started on a few years ago. It is still small and intimate, allowing for easy access to professors and research opportunities. Classes are small so students do not feel like a number. Although the class selection has been limited in the past, the variety has grown by dramatically in the past year. Participation in multiple discipline projects and research is very common and encouraged, especially with the robust electrical engineering and material science programs. The surrounding industries are still awakening to the quality of mechanical engineers coming out of UTD, so job placement can still be painful. Increased effort is being made to allow students and companies to work and interact together through design projects and internships. UTD is an excellent school that is focused on the making its mechanical engineering program second to none."

"Teachers and programs in the schools are rated than average and I can't really comment, because this is only graduate school I have been. The rating of the Graduate program is going higher and higher every year. A lot of support comes in from the Alumni of the school."

"The School was initially a Research Institution founded by Texas Instruments' Later it became a Degree granting graduate school, eventually becoming a proper University. The classes are competitive in the Sciences and the Engineering departments and the researchers are top-notch. I my particular School, after my advisor died, I left with an MS in good standing, but I've not been able to get support to return to complete the PhD. I'm also concerned about my fellow peers, that once they completed their Dissertation were encouraged to stay there as Post-Docs for many years. It seems that there is a culture of academic inbreeding."

"The biggest pro has got to be the faculty members. I read books they've written for FUN, and one of my professors is the leading authority in American translation studies. The downfall...cost of living in Dallas can get high, and the traffic is pretty awful. But the school itself is amazing!"
