"Pros: offers the ability to create your own research path by means of collaboration with many different faculty members doing a wide array of research. - Athens is a great place to live--college town! Cons: Rigor of the classes is suboptimal (in that the classes are quite easy). This is okay if you possess the drive to learn on your own, but it would be nice to have the faculty push you more (especially in the beginning of grad school.)"

"Rigorous, competitive program. The graduate students are very smart and also tend to be pretty close-knit. Faculty vary widely but are all brilliant."

"Awesome law school with fantastic professors. However if you don't want to do Big Law then career services does not help you at all. Good thing the Georgia name has a great reputation in the South. That alone can help you get your foot in the door."

"The faculty here at UGA (in the psychology department) are great--always willing to give advice and help you out. They are very open and welcoming. Athens is a great place to live as well. The most successful students are those who take control of their education, including self-learning statistical programs or procedures and initiating contact with faculty and/or grad students for collaboration (both within UGA and at other institutions). But it's not without it's draw-backs. Funding is given to nearly every grad student, which is great, but the basic stipend is barely sufficient to cover the monthly bills--even with being frugal. Some are able to supplement their incomes with grants or other work, but it's a bit of a crap-shoot. The more you know about grants--and the sooner you start applying for them--the better."

"The department could be more transparent so that problems in labs would be better monitored and students more supported in case of e.g. mentoring issues."

"First of all the communication of the staff and the teachers to the students are very poor. Sometime they even reply email after 1 week 2 weeks! Some people are not well qualified to deserve the post they are holding now such as Tax, International student assistance, student advisor etc!. Sometime they are very rude. There are a lots of racism act throughout the department and campus but no one care. Everywhere there are some silent discrimination. Some professors even don't know the materials but they are still teaching those courses because they are from certain superior groups."

"The University tends to not honor assistantships awarded by University as incentives for students to attend. A number of students have had mysterious administrative errors lead to the assistantships not actually being applied once the student has accepted admission, and the University typically does nothing to correct their mistakes. As expected, this is a business, and they care nothing for the individual students that attend. On the other hand, the caliber of the faculty is astounding overall, and opportunities to interact with leaders in the field of chemistry are phenomenal."

"Grad school work is hard in general. It's important to find a place where you would enjoy and not feel overwhelmed with the heavy workload. It could depend on the particular research group one chooses but overall, the chemistry dept at UGA has been giving me a sense of enjoyment as well as motivation to achieve in life."

"Overall a great program, but potential students should be aware of the investment in time (and therefore delayed earnings and life goals) of a PhD program!"

"University of Georgia is a premier Law School in the South, and both employers and other professionals recognize this. The Alumni network is strong and influential (dozens of former governors and lawmakers, etc.). There are both established and up and coming scholars on faculty, but they are incredibly approachable. Athens is a great town, and your fellow Law Dawgs provide great camaraderie. Oh, and there's the football. Cons, it's a little far from Atlanta, which is where 90% of our jobs are. But between OCIs and externships, that covers that. Other than that I cannot think of a better place to be."

"It's a diverse program with a supportive faculty. The only negative I have to say is that there is not a lot of access to career information outside of academia."

"Excellent, communicative teachers. Less than organized administration, which I've learned is to be expected of just about any English department."

"This is a top-notch school with faculty that is equally supportive. The unspoken rules and expectations are very difficult to understand and comply with, particularly since no one tells you what the rules are. Having said that, I will be a better scholar because of the learning environment and the rigor of the program."

"People are nice. But the program is obviously outdated. I am even not sure about if I learned anything out from the program. Everything they teach is like something that they are not familiar with and the program pretty much has no practical stuff. They don't value the masters students in most of the cases. They don't even want to guide masters students for thesis writing. In most of classes, people have to learn things by themselves. Also, faculties are leaving for better schools. Financial assistance is something that you will always expect but you will never get it. Your name will always be on the waitinglist but you won't get a dime before your graduation. Absolutely a no no choice. I have one class left for one more semester. And I have figured out that I have to learn real modern practical statistics by myself within a half year in order to get some job interviews. Don't come to UGA statistics. There are better choices"
