"I am in the masters of public health epidemiology program at UIC's school of public health. I already work in public health at the American Dental Association as a research assistant, so I can say first hand that the skill set this graduate program has given me so far can be directly applied to a career in public health. The classes are relevant, the professors are incredibly knowledgeable and approachable, and my classmates are inspiring and motivated. I feel fully confident that when I finish this program I will have extensive knowledge and opportunities to further my career and contentment. Frankly I do not have any cons about my program, except for the fact that it takes an hour for me to commute from work to school."

"Honestly, a great program. The area isn't necessary the safest, especially around the hospital, but that is a problem with any major city."

"The Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois in Chicago provides an extraordinary education and is among the highest ranked graduate programs in the nation! Although the college currently provides solely graduate level education, the resources provided within the college as well as the urban Chicagoland area for its students are of high value."

"UIC has a very competitive MBA program. The faculty are knowledgeable, passionate and helpful. Classes are interesting and challenging, and pursuing your course of study and career path are made easy. And Chicago is one of the best cities in the world!"

"Overall I have enjoyed my experience at UIC's Jane Addams College of Social Work. However, there seems to be an inconsistency in the quality of the professors there. While some professors seem to be highly informed and highly motivated, some seem to be less involved in the actual practice of social work, which is a little disappointing. While some courses are highly organized and effective, some are less so and are not as educational as I hoped they would be."

"I think that overall, the program has been good, however, I have been less than impressed with some of the professors. I feel that I am not learning as much as I should be in my classes. Some of the classes are organized very well and are very informative, while others have been lackluster at best. In some respects I am very impressed with the curriculum, and in others I wish that the professors had more of a passion to teach."

"Pros- In general Chicago is a great setting to be studying public health because there are so many public health issues in Chicago. The faculty are well educated and knowledgeable, but many of them are very busy and do not always have a lot of time for students. The school is accredited and adheres to national public health school standards. Also, my lower rating in transportation and surrounding area probably would improve if I lived elsewhere in the city. Right by UIC west campus is not the best. Cons- There are a lot of core courses, and a lot to get done in only two years. I wish I didn't have to fight so hard to develop my own program. Not that I do not think that some of these classes are relevant, but I do wish there were more flexibility. I also wish there were more grant and scholarship opportunities available including having the ability to ensure that those who are on the global health track would definitely be able to travel abroad for their practicum if they so choose. ( I am on the global health track)."

"The University of Illinois-Chicago health informatics program is diverse, with students coast to coast and a variety of different professions. This allows different perspectives, viewpoints and input. The Health Informatics Program has broadened my horizons and given me knowledge I would not have obtained in other programs. It works with my job situation and I am receiving a top notch education. I give it an A+."

"The Graduate program at UIC is very different from Undergrad. The classes are smaller (20-40 students) and the faculty treat you like a colleague. There's a lot of article readings and presentations required of classes. It's a great program overall and top 20 for Public Health Policy."

"I have had some amazing teachers thus far and learned a great deal. However, on the administrative side, I don't have much guidance. I have to learn how to do things as I go with little help."

"To my experience thus far the pros are definitely reputation of UIC. This University is renowned nation wide for its programs and education. It is the third largest medical school in the country and its past graduates are some of the industries leaders in medicine and research. The cons are that it does not supply financial support to all programs on a level playing field as some programs such as mine (HIM) come behind doctorate and other programs when it comes to scholarship and grant funding."
