"Pros: Big school, many options and career opportunities Cons: It is in the middle of nowhere and pretty expensive to travel anywhere"

"UIUC offers great course and has an outstanding faculty. The opportunities for professional development through teaching, tutoring, office administration, and publishing are fantastic. The program is very helpful in preparing students through the MA to enter the PhD. A weakness, however, is that the program does little to help those students who only wish to compete the MA degree without continuing on in the program. It's also not very welcoming to students entering with an MA from another program."

"I transferred to the UofI for my last two years of undergraduate studies. I really enjoyed my experience both curricular and extracurricular. The campus has great support for transfer students, so i would highly recommend UofI as a transfer student. The campus is small enough that it is easy to navigate by foot, bike or public transportation. The school carries great pride in its sporting events and there is never a dull season, although football and basketball take the cake! The student-teacher ratio for upperclassmen is excellent, so although it is a big school, you do not feel overwhelmed when you are in class, plus Teacher Aids are always around."

"Academically, it's a very good school for engineering. I've had professors who are the best in the world in their field and I took classes that were more in-depth as an undergrad than graduate classes at other universities. The location honestly isn't that great (nothing but corn for miles outside of the city. And soy beans. Corn and soy beans) and a lot of the culture is focused on the bar and party scene, which isn't exactly my cup of tea. Still, I was always able to find something to do in the little free time that I had."

"U of I was such an amazing college to attend. 'Work hard , play hard" comes to mind when I think of this school. Students are really smart, and generally everyone studies hard- but they party pretty hard too. Also- Greek life and social clubs are a blast. I loved every minute of this school."

"My education prepared me very well for work in my chosen field. Recently I have branched out to an area that is less related to the field of my major, but I still feel that the education I received has equipped me to be successful in my chosen line of work."

"UIUC is a top college for computer science and engineering in general. It teaches the theory behind computer science in addition to the practice. The program is competitive with top private schools that cost vastly more money."

"UIUC has an excellent history program and the other programs I had to interact with for my degree (languages, American Indian Studies) are wonderful as well. I had two research assistant jobs as an undergraduate and they set me up well for entry-level work after I graduated in the field where I ended up choosing a career. UIUC has great resources for students-- especially the libraries-- beautiful art and architecture (although the facilities for LAS are not in as good repair as the STEM facilities), and Urbana-Champaign was a very nice place to live for four years. The school has a lot of great programs and my friends from other fields are doing well. I'd recommend the school to anyone regardless of their interests. UIUC has a problem with respecting diversity, mostly on the part of its students, and a lot of that is connected to its finally retiring its racist mascot during the years I attended. There is still resentment of this decision from some insensitive people, and occasionally really inappropriate behavior mostly from people in fraternities. The faculty in general, and especially the faculty and students from great programs like Native American House, do a good job of providing an educational safe space in my opinion."

"I think for arts-minded applicants UIUC is largely overrated. It has some has the same mix of good and bad professors as anywhere. Lots of good lectures and other events though, which can really supplement a lackluster academic experience."

"If you like big schools with lots of opportunities, this is a great place to go."

"Honestly I was more interested in microbiology but U of I did not offer that as a major. The molecular and cellular biology major is chemistry-heavy. I would have benefited from a lot more assistance with considering my graduate school options as well, and ended up stalling after receiving my degree."

It is reputable for academic excellence and leadership and provides a platform where I can sharpen my leadership qualities. 2. Its unique and customized programs meets my specific needs and guides me towards my quest for a global business and cultural mindset"

"All of the faculty that I have interacted with are very supportive of the students and passionate about what they do."

"We've got a great psych department as a whole, and our clinical/community program (which I am in) is usually ranked one of the top 10 in the US. Additionally, the cost of living is low and funding high, so you don't need to take out loans"

"The geographic location is very limiting for grad students with long duration programs, and the activities are limited because of it being a college campus, but overall a great program and colleagues, worth braving the geographic limitations."
