"University of Maryland - College Park is widely accepted to be a fantastic school for aerospace engineering. I entered UMD as a mechanical engineering graduate student until I saw the breadth of research being performed in the space sector. Technology and mathematical models pertaining to space systems has always been a passion of mine and University of Maryland creates a supportive network for me to be able to pursue this research. Before attending UMD, I completed my Bachelors at Virginia Tech. One major distinction between the two campuses is UMD takes large strides in creating more academic resources for students and is quick to embrace new technologies that are able to improve student's learning experiences. Beyond the outstanding academic level at UMD, there are several areas that could use advancement. One area in need of improvement is the large cost of renting an apartment near campus. The large cost has actually driven me to return to living at home and commuting for over an hour. Additionally, cheaper apartments can be found near the outskirts of Washington D.C. but often the neighborhoods have a high tendency towards violence. While the campus police are fantastic at maintaining a safe and secure area around campus, students must often traverse more unsafe neighborhoods to reach campus. Despite requiring more progress for creating a safe surrounding area for students, UMD has already made great strides in insuring that students feel safe. Campus security has set up an intricate system for notifying students of potential threats as well as designating rapid responses for any developing problems. In spite of potential problems there is no other university that I would rather attend. I believe the student body feels the same as me, that the University of Maryland provides students with the knowledge and networking to be able to elevate their standard of living beyond other universities. At heart, I am proud to be a Terp!"

"The pros of the Masters Program in Psychological Sciences is to learn about all the evidence-base treatment available for different psychological disorders both in children and adults. The program urges grad students to delve into the most current scientific research and advance the future of mental health in order to properly treat the thousands of people who suffer from psychological disorders. The cons of the this program is that you do not get hands on experience in the clinical field. You are not trained to see patients and you will not be a Psychologist. Instead, this program exposes you to different topics in psychopathology where you can find your interest and develop your own research proposal in order to apply to a Ph.D program."

"Opportuntities for graduate assistantship are hard to come by. The classes are demanding. The campus itself is lovely. The university is nearby Washington DC which has many opportunities for internships and jobs. Fellow peers can be hit or miss socially, but since there is diversity you are bound to find people you mix with well."

"The Master's program in Clinical Psychological Science is in its nascency at the University of Maryland; it has only been around for a few years. However, they are doing a great job and striving to make the program better every day. It is a great milieu in which to improve one's knowledge, both academic and professional, of the world of clinical psychology. Also, many kudos to the faculty for emphasizing the science behind the treatment and research; no medical quackery here at UMd. Awesome instructors, great classes, good people."

"PROS: The program is very application-based, so the students learn hands-on skills. Additionally, all of the instructors are currently working in the field of interpretation or translation. This helps me be confident that their guidance and expertise is relevant and useful. CONS: Since the program is only about 2 years old, there are still some kinks that the directors have to resolve with the structure of classes and hiring of instructors. The quality of each class is determined by the individual instructor, so the breadth of experience and information gained by a student can vary."

"Pros: UMCP is located a few miles from the country's capital. This influences a lot of research grants from various government agencies which is very good for graduate students. UMCP has students from all parts of the world. You get to meet people from different cultural backgrounds and learn about other cultures Cons: Being so close to DC makes accommodation expensive in the area."

"I transferred from a small (~2,000 student) school to UMD my junior year. While I LOVED the larger student body, the larger class selection, and the larger activities selection, it was really hard to be a transfer student halfway through college. If you don't like where you are at after two semesters, transfer right away. College goes by so fast that any time spent unhappy is truly wasted."

"Pros: - Information system is a beautiful blend of management and technical subjects, this bridging the gap between the two. - While problem solving, we'll have the advantage of making use of both (management and technology) perspectives hence coming up with more practical and efficient solutions. Cons: - The only disadvantage that I can think of is that, if I wish to select an elective from a completely different department, for example the Psychology department, then that would be tough to achieve."

"The Smith School is very prestigious, but some of the professors are not at this caliber level. Other professors bring real life experience to the table which is exceedingly useful. The workload can be rigorous but it is do-able with a full time job."

"UMD has one of the most expansive network of alumni available and is seated directly next to Washington D.C. This creates a unique opportunity to tap into opportunities that would otherwise be inaccessable. The program however does lean towards the expensive side. If one is to begin the program they need to have a long term vision that they believe will be accomplished through an MBA."

"It's a great place for public policy students to network and gain integral skills for their future jobs as policy makers. The professors are incredibly skilled and helpful. It's great that it's so close to Washington, D.C. However the PG county area is not that great, and the surrounding area is not as developed to make it a great town. Overall, it's a great value because it's excellent academically but extremely affordable."
