"I have been extremely pleased with the program. I am challenged and am really learning how to apply my classwork to real-world situations."

"Pros of this program are the top notch faculty considering how small the university is, faculty is available and willing to help, the Jacksonville area provides lots of opportunities for networking or internship (Mayo Clinic). Cons of the program are the limited facilities. It's a smaller university so there is less to work with, however an industrious or resourceful student will find the facilities to be more than enough."

"Physical therapy is a unique profession. Although it is a tremendous amount of work, being able to help patients on a daily basis is more than rewarding enough. The physical therapy program at the University of North Florida is competitive and challenging, yet gives off a very welcoming vibe. All the professors are willing to help students in anything they need and are willing to take time out of their days to assist in any way possible. The small classroom size is ideal and the ratio of students to professors facilitates learning in all aspects."

"The professors are top-notch and supportive of the students in the program. They provide excellent help in addressing my concerns, my work, and my future. I feel very confident in my choice of entering the Graduate Program at the University of North Florida. Furthermore, I would recommend the Graduate Program at UNF for anyone who is interested in attending. However, there is a problem with the UNF Graduate Program. No scholarship opportunities exist for the history graduate students except for the Teaching Assistant Program. As for myself, I have relied upon a third-party scholarship that pays a portion of the tuition and my own funds. In the end, the program has first-rate professors, but limited scholarship opportunities."

"I feel it is a good program. There is a lot of work but I feel I will be ready when I graduate. They do a lot to support our field. It is in a big city so with the little free time we have there is a lot to do."

"I chose the University of North Florida Graduate Program over other institutions based on size, the beauty of the campus and the availability of multiple scholarships. I love my school and how much there is to do in Jacksonville. It's not just a college town. I would say a con of our school is obviously that we don't have a football team, but we have an NFL team to cheer on and support so it's not that bad! Plus, if you get involved you have plenty to do all the time anyways! Also,it's so easy to get internships because there are so many companies and businesses located and centralized in Jacksonville. I wouldn't have chosen anywhere else to further my education."

  • Degree: Public Administration
"The program needed to be more technically intensive. So much of public administration (academic and professional) requires rigorous mathematical analysis, but courses supporting this development had been minimized by my graduation date. Because most courses were forums for philosophical tinkering and debate, the program was more of a "Part II" of undergraduate political science. This detraction, however, could be attributed to the product most demanded by the students in the program. Students who were particularly focused on professional application (especially in nonprofit work) found a very appropriate, applicable program of study in the UNF Public Administration program. Furthermore, the adjunct faculty from the government sector were from varied backgrounds, with a wealth of practical knowledge from experiences in recent political administrations on various levels of state. This was a testament to the leadership of the new program director and his vision therewith."

"I graduated University of North Florida 2.5 years ago. I attended UNF for 2 years and received my Masters in Elementary Education/ TESOL. I completed my Masters as well as taught full-time and a part-time graduate assistant in the elementary education building. The professors at UNF were professional, educated, and extremely willing to teach me. UNF was a perfect school for me to receive my Masters, especially since I was living out-of-state. I would recommend UNF to any student who is willing to be part of teams, committees, and who are willing to take ownership over their own education."

"The faculty and staff are superb! At times, the workload is staggering, but the support of not only the faculty and staff but especially other members of the cohort makes the program work and work well."

"Pros: Excellent knowledgeable professors with a full open door policy. The program feels like a big family. Small cadaver groups, local clinical opportunities, small class size and challenging curriculum. Cons: Lack of interdisciplinary approach to learning. We do not study with nursing or med students often."

"Our class size is very small - we have only 30 people per class. This facilitates greater peer relationships, a camaraderie in which everyone wants to see everyone else succeed, and close professional relationships with our faculty member. The campus is beautiful and provides many different quiet studying spots to enjoy the beautiful Florida day."

"This program is excellent for preparing students to be entry-level doctors of physical therapy. Having experienced multiple internships thus far, I have seen how UNF students compare to DPT students from other colleges, and I feel we are much more prepared to handle patients than some others. Our program has a great reputation for graduation rate, passing rate on the National Physical Therapy Exam, and percentage of students hired following graduation."

"Being as how this is the first year of starting the MM in Performance, the Piano section is well balanced in focusing on both Pedagogy and Performance. There is a lot more playing and learning new skills, with a Bibliography course to help one understand how to do graduate (and later on, Academic) research. Even though it's in it's early stages, I think the program will grow to be very beneficial to those seeking professional or academic music careers and provide a solid foundation to Doctoral studies. The faculty are already knowledgeable and they provide more one on one support better than a bigger name (music) school in FL. The only complaint is that there aren't enough good piano practice rooms."

"The benefits of my program give me a fast track into the world of administration both public as well as private sectors and a clear window to look through. I feel I gain more knowledge and insight to compete and enter into a career in Public Administration. One drawback is that some of the internships that are offered to the program are very time-consuming for someone like myself who has to work to help pay the bills. A broader selection of paid internships would fix this."

"The pros are using the different students as assets to learning about a professor's teaching styles. The program director is also very helpful as well when I was applying for the graduate program. The cons are it took nearly two months for my application status to update and I wasn't able to register for classes at the same time as the rest of the student body."

"My program has done its best to make itself better. We constantly have the most knowledgeable and best professors. We are a close-nit family that works to help each other constantly. I could not have asked for a program more able to help me succeed in achieving my goals."
