"The School of Journalism and Communication has an incredibly diverse faculty with experience in a broad range of areas, which is a major strength--but can be a downfall, too, if you want to study something specific."

"I am in the Oregon Leadership in Sustainability program, it is housed under Architecture and Allied Arts. The program is very intense and offers a myriad of learning opportunities. They are still working out the bugs as this is only the second year of the program. For example, next year I imagine students will be advised to practice Photoshop and inDesign before the fall term."

"The University of Oregon's school of Journalism and Communication has an adequate graduate program but is in need of revitalization and while it is working on incorporating working with the latest technologies and platforms, I felt that I didn't get what I needed within the year that was the designated time frame. Coming into the program, I felt rushed and pressured to be a master at things I didn't have any background in. I think a more comprehensive first term with classes in journalistic elements, upcoming technologies that are useful, and a crash course in journalistic writing and communication would have been helpful along with an 8 week course that was held once a week that featured the different avenues open to modern day journalists would have been much more helpful. After the first term, graduate students should have been able to take the classes that appealed most to the avenue in which they wanted to go. Instead of taking only classes in news writing, I should have been able to take classes in magazine writing, design, and feature writing. While I rarely say this about educational courses, I wasted a lot of time focusing on things that won't be of use to me. I wound up taking an extra year to get the classes I needed in order to flourish in my field."

"The academic environment is stimulating, but not overtly competitive within academic cohorts. Most of the faculty is top notch, with a few extreme exceptions and there are a lot opportunities for advising and career support. The surrounding town is smallish but lively and the landscape is beautiful. The Ducks are the core of this town."

"The economics program is top notch, with professors with a broad array of specialties working in a friendly, open-door and highly collaborative environment. Graduate students are supported and expected to succeed, unlike many other PhD programs."

"University of Oregon has a wonderful graduate community. This community is organized by an extremely strong Union which provides us with competitive pay and full insurance benefits. In the Geoscience department, students are well funded and Graduate Teaching Fellowships are readily available for students who do not have research fellowships. The faculty and students in the Geoscience department are supportive and collaborative as well as at the for-front of their particular fields of research. Eugene is a city full of culture but also a strong college town dynamic. Athletics spirit and school pride are infectious."

"My graduate program is incredible. The support is unbelievable and the academic opportunities are perfectly suited to my interests. Eugene itself is not ideal, but the program more than makes up for it."

"My grad program fosters a high degree of collaboration and generates a love of academics in general. Our faculty is on the cutting edge of their fields and show a willingness to work with students, regardless of their field or adviser. We are well prepared to get high ranked academic jobs."

"My Master’s program allowed me to explore all the different options I was able to pursue in my major as well as be guided by the best in my field. It had given me amazing opportunities I wouldn’t have had been able to discover without it. I spent most of my days in class and my nights awake studying. On top of that, I had to work and find time to finish all these projects. Besides spending time with my classmates, I hardly remembered what it was like having a social life. Also, you may lose your mind at some points, but that is an occupational hazard."
