"My specific program within the School of Arts and Sciences is very small in faculty size, thus making the prospective research areas limited. On the contrary, since the faculty is so small in size, the professors are extremely dedicated to students' learning and professional progression."

"Pros: The program has great students and faculty who are always eager to help and provide assistance. The large amount of students gives rise to a lot of diverse projects, without the tension for competition. There are also many opportunities to see plays and musicals. There is always something to do! Cons: The research can be a bit quick paced."

"Among the pros: oppurtinity to teach and do research, many seminars in different areas. Among the cons: sometimes the amount of work is too much, too many exams that might interfere and slow down research"

"Not enough oversight of the teaching assistants, although programs have been recently implemented to address this. There has also been an apparent unwillingness to send unprepared or undedicated students packing when they don't meet certain "strict" deadlines (like not passing preliminary exams within the first two years, for example)."

"The graduate program provides students with access to the best research and scientists in bioengineering. Weaknesses are in the program organization (class requirements are nebulous and the system for registering for classes is still paper-based.) The setting of Pittsburgh is great for bioengineering because of the wealth of hospitals and entrepreneurial environment. The city is also safe and fun, providing a much needed escape when the lab work is done."

"This program has provided strong academic and financial support. Most of the students I have seen graduate with PhDs before me have had good outcomes, receiving postdocs or tenure-track positions eventually. The department is also making an effort to change and develop course structure as the discipline changes. There is a friendly, helpful atmosphere among the graduate students. There are not many art history jobs available, so it is important to find a department like this one with financial support and faculty doing interesting work."

"The pros of this program are that it prepares you to work on your writing skills for policy papers. It also teaches you how to skim and prioritize your workload, readings, etc. The cons are that I am not really sure what hard skills I learned, and how a lot of the course material will help me find a job in the future. In addition, the school's administration is difficult to work with for cross-registration with other programs, and making undergraduate degrees count towards requirements. A lot of courses seem to promise a lot, but turn out to be disappointing. Classes are smaller than in undergrad, so there is more attention for students, but this can be bad if professors dislike you."

"The faculty and staff are extremely organized and willing to help in any way possible. They have truly streamlined the programs to be beneficial to your chosen line of work. Staff around campus are extremely nice and helpful and the city is pretty affordable as far as cities go. - See more at: http://jkarageorge.staging.wpengine.com/schools/university-of-pittsburgh-main-campus/sciences/#sthash.wZrBrhOs.dpuf"

"It's a great department with great support, but we need more faculty to truly fulfill the needs of the students - graduate and undergraduate alike. We seem to lack support from the school to make this happen to the extent that we need."

"The information science program has a lot of great faculty and staff. The program is also great because you have so many opportunities to try different kinds of information science-related courses whether it's in archives, human-centered computing, web systems, or telecommunications (and more!). You can learn a lot whether it is in class or networking at a social event. The School of Information Science at Pitt is definitely a place where you have to actively make the best out of your environment. All of the resources are there that can support you and bring you success, you just have to make the effort. If you're into research, they definitely put a lot of funding and support into it. Pitt would definitely be the place to go."
