It also depends on the advisor you choose. Some professors give you more freedom than others in your research. Some professors are results oriented (results are published) and don't like pure research which doesn't yield to many papers...

Academically very rigorous program, but the university setting is conductive to learning and having fun.

Degree: Law
Graduation Year: 2014

UVA is a very competitive law school, and classes reflect its academic competitiveness, but I think the quality of life of a UVA Law student is among the best in the nation. Almost everyone at the school is down-to-earth and someone you would enjoy hanging out with outside of class. The professors are also, with a few exceptions, phenomenal.

UVA has an amazing campus - mountains and vineyards that are beautiful particularly in the spring and fall. The law school has a caring staff and the professors are motivated to teach and mentor their students.

UVa law provides quality education, and, for the most part, an education here will give good job opportunities. The faculty is very supportive and genuinely want students to excel.

Degree: Business
Graduation Year: 2014

I can't imagine attending any other school. As rigorous as the program is and with recruiting on top of that, it's truly a collaborative community where students can expect their classmates, professors and career counselors to go above and beyond in assisting in reaching our career goals. I in the first 3 months of school, I had dinner at 2 of my professors homes with their families. It's that kind of place. The rigor of the program pushes me to be a better and more influential business woman who is more equip for the reality of the global business environment. Lastly, the Darden alumni network will do anything to support one another. In times where the economy is unstable, it is great to know that I a member of a lifelong network that will continue to provide the same level of support that I have received since the day I stepped on campus.

Degree: Health Sciences
Graduation Year: 2013

The Public Health Program at UVa is great and has wonderful faculty and advisors. There are some great opportunities for travel and volunteer work. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of money available for graduate students.
