"We suffered state funding cuts, which immediate effects on campus life and amenities. I am afraid the cuts will have further negative effects on the quality of education and comptetitiveness"

"Madison is a great combination of a college town with an active downtown scene. The school offers all the benefits of a great large university (research, collaboration, diversity). It's important, however, to be proactive about securing career support."

"I've had some 'hick-ups' with this school, but I feel the division is making some good adjustments. As with all graduate programs, your adviser is key, make certain you will get along. Finally, the administrative staff does a great job, but it is left to YOU to get your degree done (this isn't a complaint, but a statement of fact)...."

"The best thing I like about UW Madison apart from the excellent research opportunities that it offers is its location. Madison is a very beautiful city surrounded by lakes."

"UW-Madison is a wonderful research institution, and the city is amazing. Unfortunately this public, land-grant school is hindered by the reduction of support from an oppositional state government."

"University of Wisconsin-Madison stands way apart from other Universities in United States. It has one of the most beautiful campus, on the isthmus of Lake Mendota and Lake Monona. It is well known for its research especially in engineering."

"It's really a beautiful campus, residing by the lake mendota and monona, and inside the town of Madison. There are greatest sport teams, like the Badgers, the winner of "Big Ten" for two years. Academic strength here is also quite good. Take my major, computer science, as example, there are great professors in different domains, for example, the computer architectures, the databases, the compilers, and the operating systems and so on. The technical publications here bring large impact to the academic community and also attract extensive industrial attention. No matter you want to do research or go industrial, it's a quite good choice here. Besides, our department does not distinguish masters and PHDs, so if one is not sure about whether to pursue his/her PHD degree, then it would be good to stay here and explore the possibility for future reference. The things I am not satisfied is the food here does not match my taste. There are so few restaurants around the new union, and this causes difficulties. For those who do not yet buy a car, it will be not convenient for you to go to large malls or super markets. Anyway, if just for routing without many things, then bus here is convenient. The school will make each one a bus pass, so it is free for student to take bus here, and that can save you a lot. Recently there are some criminals conducted in some regions of UW-Madison, I hope this would be further improved. Some places are quite dark when night comes, and this makes robbing easier. Single individuals, especially woman should not wander too late outside."

"It's actually a very accepting town and campus, though can be a little hard to get used to if one is moving from a large city."

"I love my graduate school. Education has to be more like making students to be creative, and should bring out their potential. UW Madison is a perfect school for that. Transportation, campus living is totally awesome and Madison is a scenic place to live in with so many outdoor activities like kayaking, canoeing, skiing etc., Its a wonderful city to live in."
