Coug life was great! I had a car, but not everyone did. It really wasn't necessary since the whole town is set up around the college. Dorms the first year were fine, and a good way to determine who to room with off campus the following years. I've found that it as far as getting hired it doesn't matter too much where you went to school, the degrees are all the same. So my advice would be to pick a school you'll enjoy for the time you're there. I can't say enough great things about the faculty and... Read More

Degree: Education
Without a degree, I would not have been able to get a full-time teaching position. I continued with further education as required by my profession, and got a Master of Teaching degree in 1991. My undergraduate studies were adequate, but I was able to take graduate courses through the years that were more helpful and specific to my teaching assignments and needs. My date of birth is off your chart! (1937)

Degree: Business
My Master's program at UW was challenging and thorough. I was well trained in theoretical statistics. I was also given research experience. The faculty is incredibly smart and talented, but research is their priority, not teaching. This program does not cater to industry application of statistics; I received no training in SQL, SAS, SPSS, or other commonly used data programs. In addition, access to data in grad school is limited - the whole world is talking about big data but the data we worked with... Read More

Degree: Civil Engineering
A degree in engineering becomes very limiting, since you have to work for a large company and they control your life. I broke free from this problem 25 years ago and started my own farm. I now use my engineering abilities more with the farm than I did working with Snohomish County PUD as an engineer. Working for the government in any capacity is a dead end and I would encourage anyone coming out of college to avoid it at all costs.

I would have picked a different degree if I had it to do over again, especially in today's job market. The college experience was typical, and you get out of it what you put into it.

Degree: Veterinary Science
It is one of the top competitive veterinary schools in the nation, and has an excellent reputation for research and clinical medicine practice. I've run into a few snags with their financial aid department, like misplacing SSNs and such, but otherwise I've had no complaints.

I feel that I made a mistake coming to this university. I have met great people and would not change them for the world however, this is not a popularity contest. I believe myself to be a great performer and thought that in some way I would be rewarded, but on the contrary I have actually ended up spending more than I can afford. I realized that I was not academically suited for scholarships so I had to work hard to show that I was worthy to attend my university. I worked very hard and was not rewarded... Read More

Degree: MBA
The WSU MBA program is only a year long and is a cohort so you get to work closely with your peers and get to know your professors. The program also requires a study abroad portion to give an opportunity to network with international companies.

Degree: Veterinary Science
Veterinary Medicine is a fantastic program at WSU. The faculty and staff are very supportive of students gaining an education and preparing them for a career. The curriculum is challenging and pushes each student to be their best. The area of Pullman, Wa has a lot to offer as far as outdoor activities. There is mountain biking, hiking, and camping close by. Living is fairly expensive for the area. This is due to the lack of available housing. There needs to be more competitive housing in the area.... Read More

Degree: Psychology
I went to Washington State University and had a great time. When I say great time that mostly means the social aspect. The schooling was hit or miss depending what teacher/course you took. Pullman is a college city and although fairly large it had an intimate feel to it. It was a good fit for me because I had a lot of friends that went there too and they became like a second family to me. Yes, Psychology was a pretty general degree that I could pursue different careers with. It was a good foundation... Read More

Good collaboration and peer support. Faculty is accessible and interested. Cost of living is low, good place for families. Not the best for getting a job at a Tier 1 University in the future.

It is very versatile: now I work within the wine research program, but also can apply my knowledge anywhere in the food industry as a consultant or like. Of course, it may be quite hard to find a decent job in a populated area, since all you don't often find food factories or wineries in the middle of San Francisco.
