Alabama A&M University is a great university! As it is a part of the HBCUs, or Historically Black Colleges and Universities, in the nation, it is definitely one that should not be overlooked. Providing a great foundation on service and ability to ensure all are successful and given the tools to soar in any and everything after the time here is what drove me to choose this great university! From the ever-helping faculty to ensure you are on top of your studies and not falling behind to the peers and student body who create such a welcoming environment with a balance of service, study, and leisure time to enjoy being a college student, this is definitely the place to be. As it is well-known here, you will absolutely love "The Hill"!

Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU) provides students with the best instruction, hands on experience, and networking opportunities. Your professors are always available to help with your academic and professional needs. I first transferred to AAMU in 2007 from another institution and there I learned about how to apply for graduate and professional programs. The Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences provided opportunities and internships that prepared me for standardize testing that wasn't previously available to me. The family atmosphere on campus helped me to become more community focused and offered the support I needed even after I'd graduated. As a Graduate Assistant, I instructed Biology and Chemistry, I was active in various campus organizations, I performed research, and participated in school fundraisers, all while completing my master's degree. I still communicate with all my professors which has open opportunities for me in research and also helped prepared me for medical school. AAMU will prepare you to be a highly competitive and well sought after job applicant and professional school applicant. Whether is in the STEM field, our nationally ranked(2nd in the country) Social Work program , our Engineering and Technology School (ranked 1st in the state of Alabama) , or our phenomenal business program, AAMU is sure to help you achieve your academic potential and career goals.

The pros of my graduate program include the diversity of professors and students, availability of professors, the feel that the faculty as a whole really care about your education, and feeling as if you have truly learned something and ready for the real world. The only con to the program that the location is 2 hrs away from my place of residence. I love my graduate program!!!!

Degree: Psychology
Graduation Year: 2013

I feel as though my graduate program does not offer a variety of courses that are required to be successful in my field. There arent enough professors to accomodate the student population therefore classes are either cancelled or taught by adjunct professors. An adjunct professor is not as easily accessible as a professor that has set office hours on campus. Technology is expanding; however, communicating only through email or the phone develops a wall between the student and the professor.

The graduate program here at Alabama A & M University has been enriching and challenging. I am about to complete my 2nd semester and I have been rewarded numerous opportunities based on the hard work I have done. Alabama A & M is a place where you will get out of the experience what you put into the experience and I am truly grateful for the education I am receiving. The only con I would give the school as a whole is its lack in accessibility. It is very difficult to navigate the graduate web page and even more difficult to find information on the web page. After no information can be found online, one must resort to calling the various offices; where you are greeted with rudeness or no answer at all. My advice would be to personally go to the offices to handle any business and you should be fine!
