Experience everything you can and connect with those you meet as the contacts you make in college can help you throughout your career. Overall college is a very rewarding experience in which you get out what you put in.

Degree: School Counseling

This program had some rough starts for me. However, the department is getting much better. The advising is better. There is actually a clear path of which classes to take and when. Staff can still be very uneven about answering emailed questions, and some of the adjunct professors are not as good as to be hoped for, or eager to make accommodations when requested (for those without an educational background). However, as I said, the school is improving. The value for the money, and the ability to take almost all your classes online is exceptional.

I choose this school because they were affordable, and the program was what I want to do in life. The program has since been discontinued, but even before it was, the classes have nothing to do with the degree. All of the classes are about academic research, and that has little to do with social media management. The instructors are barely interactive, I have regularly had professors not respond to emails, take weeks to grade assignments, and when they do, not provide feedback, but take points off. There is no way for online students to interact with their fellow students, despite many being all over the world, not just in Kansas. Many of the professors simply provide "busy" work that does not teach students anything. Overall, I regret taking this degree and have wasted the last two years. I hope I can at least get a job from it, but I doubt that since I barely learned anything that will qualify me to be a Social Media Manager.

Degree: School Counseling
Graduation Year: 2018

This program is intensive, but comes with great support from the instructors. Instructors are all very knowledgable and show great care for their students. The School Counseling Master's degree is mostly completed on-line. A little bit of on campus time is required as well as practicum and internship hours. I feel very prepared to enter the work force from the education I received at Fort Hays.

Degree: Human Resources
Graduation Year: 2017

The online graduate program at Fort Hays State University is very interactive and houses many professional administrators who know and work in the field they are teaching. It leads to a great deal of learning current methods as well as tying to the methods in the academic spectrum. I find that the program overall is wonderful so far and I really can't find a con in the program thus far.
