Pro: Professors are great at what they do. They know how to prepare the student to succeed in the real world after graduation. Con: To many different tracks and there is one professor you should avoid at all cost. If you get him you will know.

Coming from a Long Island, NY to Indiana, PA was definitely a big change. I was excited to start my schooling at IUP so I can enhance my knowledge even further. To me, a graduate program should include faculty who is willing to go above and beyond for their students and who are there for the students because in the end, without the students there wouldn't be much. At IUP, professors and faculty encourage everyone to go after what they want to and to not let anything get in the way. Everyone is very laid back which makes the program less stressful in terms of work load.

The rigor of the ALS Doctorate program is challenging. Program structure is affordable and flexible for working professionals. Would highly recommend this program and University.

IUP offers students a great opportunity to study at a school that caters to the student's needs and educational goals. The Composition & TESOL graduate program is friendly and inviting for all students interested in the English field. It prepares students in a manner that sets them up to enter their profession. I enjoy studying at my school because I have met people from all around the world who bring a different perspective to the learning and teaching of English as a Second Language. It's like no other educational experience.

The pros of my graduate program would be the professors. They are always available to help you and willing to help you. I am working and going to school full time and its hard but my adviser and professors help me out. The course work is challenging but i am not drowning in the workload. Another pro is the internship you can do. The cons of the graduate program is even when you are not taking the thesis option you still have to take two classes to help you write a thesis. Another con is that since I am out of state the pricing is high especially for the online classes, but I really wanted to come here because of this program so it will be worth it.

The Ph.D. program in English Literature and Criticism is one of the top in the United States and a magnet for an international community of scholars as well. While at IUP, I have learned beyond my expectations, already transferring that knowledge to my classroom teaching. The directors and professors provide a rigorous program of study which allows critical and creative thinking, while expecting students to demonstrate scholarship through a high level of academic writing. The summers-only residency option for teachers at IUP's English Department is the only way that working instructors like me, who prefer and value an on-campus program as opposed to an online platform, can pursue a highly-rated graduate program outside of the regular teaching contract year. Campus living is easy with beautiful new dorm suites, decent dining hall food, and free transportation wherever the public transit buses stop. The financial aid office really works with students and operates error-free as I have experienced.Besides all of that, the campus is located in beautiful, small-town Indiana, PA, area home of the famed late actor Jimmy Stewart and inspiring eco- writer Edward Abbey, easily accessible after a short bus ride from the Pittsburgh airport. Enjoy down-time on historic Philadelphia Street with buildings key to the Underground Railroad and all the modern day eateries, bakeries, museums, antique shops, and art galleries one would expect. As my pink and black t-shirt reads, "I love IUP!"

This graduate program allows for students who have families and responsibilities to participate in a program that may eventually lead to a better system for nontraditional students. Though I would prefer face-to-face discussions with my classmates, the online discussions meet the needs of those who cannot participate in a traditional classroom. The online format also allows for a more diverse group of students. The instructors for this program are attentive and readily available. The assignments they have created prepare the students for a wide variety of situations upon graduation.
