"The program works to provide a lot of support to its grad students. There are plenty of opportunities for research and teaching, but you often need to rely on networking in order to get these positions."

"A great program in a great city. The faculty are challenging and push you, while allowing you to go above and beyond if that is really your passion."

"Overall Carlson is an excellent program. They really value their MBA students in each of the programs (part-time, full-time, & executive). Professors are very approachable, program mentors are extremely responsive, and the quality of education is outstanding. However, because of the quality of the program I think the school could be more selective of applicants. I would prefer to see a greater level of peer competition within the program as I think this strengthens the learning process. Also, I am rather disappointed with the number of grants and scholarships available to all students. Most if not all of the scholarships are available only to minority groups."

"Economics PhD program at the University of Minnesota is really challenging but the skills and tools that you acquire in the process are invaluable and are necessary and sufficient for you to become a professional economist."

"With not a lot of attrition, students feel more free to work together The feeling of "we are in this together" is what makes the program so great. Also, the department offers ample teaching opportunities, which I know a lot of other schools do not give to graduate students."

"Cons: The cost of living is higher in the Twin Cities than other parts of the Midwest, and we are discouraged from working so money gets tight. The program is intensive; students can expect sleepless nights and lots of studying. Pros: The program only takes a year, so if you know you want to be a teacher you don't have to wait two or three years to be licensed. The students are everyone's priority- I never feel like I am bothering my professors or advisors; I know they want to help me succeed!"

"The DPT program at the U of M is very integrative and collaborative. Communication between faculty and students is open and discussion based while still being focused and relevant. Classroom material is integrated well with clinical concepts and current research. I have yet to encounter cons of the program in my first year. It can be overwhelming for some students, but such rigor is to be expected in a doctoral degree."

"Tell us about your college experience.I loved the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. I came from a small town and its a huge campus. To me this was a benefit rather than a drawback. I loved being anonymous, I loved all the variety. I loved the fact that I could change as I wanted to without being judged. Its a very liberal, accepting atmosphere. At the time it was also a place you could comfortably attend part-time and that worked out well for me also. What advice can you offer other students?GO TO GRAD SCHOOL. Just go to grad school. It will make you permanently employable. And follow your first instinct about what you want to do, and don't second guess yourself or tell yourself its too hard and can't be done."

"I enjoy the smaller class sizes because professors have more time to respond to students and encourage student participation. What I love the most about my law school is the way the students help instead of hinder each other. We're all there trying to get a good grade, but we aren't sabotaging one another to get it. If somebody can help another classmate out with a "cold call," he or she will."

"Tell us about your college experience. The University of Minnesota is one of the top Universities in the country in many fields of study. The campus, the people, the instructors -- all exceptional. It was a great fit for me, because I always felt like the possibilities were endless at such a large university.Would you get the same degree if you could start over?Yes, because I think it worked out well for my career. What advice can you offer other students?Consider a state university rather than a private college. They are usually less expensive, many offer an education that exceeds a private school and the tuition is usually much less expensive."

"The core MBA curriculum is well balanced and gives MBA students the broad view of topics they need to know as business administrators. My area of focus is in marketing. I've continued to be disappointed by the depth of the elective marketing courses. I'm already in this field, most classes feel like a rehash of skills and concepts that I already use on a daily basis. Minnesota has gone to a "high tuition, high aid" financial aid model, meaning lots of un-subsidized and PLUS loans. At the same time, I've seen my tuition go up more than $200/credit since I started the program. Use of technology is average - many of the instructors rely on VHS or CD, but the Carlson School facilities don't tend to play nice with those formats - audio is always a challenge. Career services at Carlson are AWESOME. If you're an MBA student and don't work with the career coaches, you're wasting the most valuable part of your tuition."

"I am only in my first semester at the U of M but I am impressed with the level of knowledge and accessibility of the professors. It is hard though because there are so many students in our class, I would like to see a smaller class size/more professors."
