"Madison is a very nice affordable town with great public transportation and activities. The program is very competitive and the professors are very accessible. The work load seems comparable to other Universities. Exam requirements are not as tough as some but publishing requirements are tougher than most."

"I particularly enjoy UW-Madison's music program because of the diversity of its students, as well as the overall academic rigor of the program and the variety of classes from which to choose. I appreciate meeting students outside my area of study, which wouldn't have happened at a conservatory. Madison is a fantastic city with lots going on culturally as well as socially. The classical music community is thriving and supportive, and there are opportunities for musicians at any level. The city itself, while large, doesn't feel too big because there are very few skyscrapers, if any. The capitol is beautiful, and the food along State Street is great. The music faculty is accessible and always willing to lend a hand and go the extra mile if you reach out to them."

"I am a student in the Physician Assistant program within the School of Medicine and Public Health. The pros of the program are the small class size and accessible and caring faculty all housed within such a large university that allowing for seemingly unending opportunities. The biggest con is the large housing expense to be near campus."

"One con is that we are not yet an accredited program, thus is a bit difficult to apply for certain scholarships or membership to certain programs. There are several pros such that the program is well ran and organized. It also is just developing therefore, with this in mind, it actually provides various opportunities for students to gain experience and develop networks."

"My Veterinary program is extremely competitive, but provides an excellent medical education (particularly if you like dairy cows) producing well rounded graduates that are extremely successful in the field. Yes, the workload is ridiculous, but this is standard for all programs. Madison is a wonderful community, but parking is extremely limited in the city (be sure you are ok with riding the bus to school)."

"My graduate program is very close, and we know each other for our entire graduate school tenure. I like the fact that the class load is heaviest during the beginning of the program, so that we can focus on our thesis work almost right away."

I feel like for phd students there is a lot of pressure to meet the demands of their advisers. Thus at some times they are looked at more like employees than students."
