Degree: Counseling
Graduation Year: 2019

The pros of my MS Mental Health Counseling graduate program through Walden University is by having it be held online is that offers me the affordability of doing it online and be able to maintain a full time job at the same time. At the same time I am able to network with other peers who are also attending the program and learn scholarly information from them that will help me along the way in the program and in my professional career. I am able to learn valuable skills at my own home without having to commute and having to stand by a rigorous weekly schedule away from home and away from work on a weekly basis. The cons of this is I unable to meet my professors face to face and if I am faced with a problem that I am needing an actually sit down counseling problem I am not able to get that. Sometimes it is more difficult to get in contact with our professors or our advisors and it may take a bit longer to receive feedback or a reply back due to the time zone difference depending on where they are located.

Pros: The faculty all works within the field in which they teach, so academically, learning information from said faculty goes a longer way when applied to real-life situations. In addition, the scholar-practitioner model that Walden uses assists students in not only deciding for themselves what is appropriate and applicable, but provides educated feedback from professors in areas of teaching and directing students to the correct areas of learning. Cons: Residencies. Not the residencies themselves, but the COST of the residencies. Many students cannot afford to leave their families for 4-7 days at a time (sometimes more) and I believe Walden needs additional opportunities for those families who do not have a support system they can rely on to watch their children.

I really like my school at Walden University. For an online program, they have a great cirrocumuli and the support is great. As a con, I wish they would help assist with the residencies expenses.

Pros of going to school online is that you are challenged by the pace and the amount of information that you have to know to progess and the Cons is the pace no lulls in the learning curve and no excuses

Walden is an excellent school for working professionals who are looking to advance their education. The school has a great set of faculty and staff that are helpful and look to provide us with a great experience. The work load at times seems a bit much but it is manageable. Financial aid is sometimes a slow process but that is expected.

I believe that the school could focus more on communications with the student that are in dissertations phase. The ease of being on line some times permits the school to be lacking the follow through a student needs to complete the program in a timely manner.

Pros: diversity, quality of education, and networking opportunities. Cons: being 100% online, society does not grant the appropriate recognition of the quality the program and for that graduates have a more difficult time obtaining licensure for professional programs.
