The graduate program is not very well advertised within the undergrad programs. I attended WSU for my undergrad and do not feel like the professors even presented the masters program as a good option. Once they knew I was interested, they began to tell me how great it was. I believe it is a really good program but I don't believe many people know that it is offered.

I am just beginning the program. So far, I have seen professors that go the extra mile to ensure the students have what they need. The only drawback I have seen is the options of classes. They are offered in the evening, which is good is you are working, but the classes fill too fast and my choices are quite limited.

Degree: Fitness Trainer

The pros for this program are incredible. The experience and knowledge of the faculty and staff are incredible. They are willing to meet with students outside of class to discuss the coursework, experiences, and potential internships or job opportunities. The workload is appropriate and helps prepare students to succeed at the Certification exam. The cons of the program is the diversity. Students are diverse in the demographics of where they were raised and the undergraduate programs attended, but there is little diversity in race, socioeconomic status, and personalities.

Weber State University Masters of Athletic Training Program is phenomenal. Most out-of-state students receive the out-of-state tuition waiver, and they only pay in-state tuition. Weber State has 100% first time pass rate for the Board of Certification exam. The Program Director and Faculty Staff have years of connections and an extended network to help students pursue various opportunities. In addition, there is high encouragement to be involved with the professional organization, as the Program Director is the State President, and the faculty present at multiple conferences. The academics are vigorous, but set at a level to challenge students and help them succeed. Ogden is a nice city, but it's a smaller town north of Salt Lake City. There are things to do, but it's not the city life. However, Ogden is one of the most diverse cities in Utah for the LDS population among other diversity groups.

I love having the hybrid program, I can still work full time, but feel I still get a good education.

I chose Weber State because of the reputation it has for the high quality education and because of the networking opportunities that exist. It is also a lot more affordable than other programs in the area. I really can't think of any cons besides the long drive from Salt Lake.

The strength of the program lies in the hands on experience students are encouraged to engage in. Many students are working professionals and classroom instruction is designed to be field tested and revised through application. Even if you are not currently working as a teacher you are encouraged to find opportunities to practice in a classroom and that makes all the difference. The research professors are great at giving feedback and helping students develop and revise their projects.

Weber State is really affordable and the best program for my needs in the area. They were really flexible on times for class and offering online classes since most of the students are full-time teachers. The faculty is wonderful and spends extra time trying to help the students. The only drawback is that it is a smaller school that is not often nationally recognized. Nevertheless, the educational value is amazing.
