I had a fantastic experience at Chico State. I was a graduate of the Rural Teacher Residency Program and received my special education teaching credential and a Master of Art's degree in Education in a year. While it was a rigorous program, we were helped greatly by the amazing professors and mentor teachers. We also completed our student teaching in a year-long placement, which I found to be an excellent way to prepare me for the expectations of the teaching profession. While I do not qualify for the Master's supplement in my school district, I find that I was more than prepared mentally for my first year and beyond. I now work as an administrative dean at my school.

CSU CHICO IS A WONDERFUL SCHOOL. QUALITY EDUCATION WITH A SMALL TOWN FEEL. THE FACULTY, STUDENTS AND STAFF MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR TIME ON CAMPUS, IN CLASS AND OUTSIDE TO CARVE OUT A WORTHWHILE EXPERIENCE FOR YOUR EDUCATION. CHICO IS AN AWESOME TOWN, WITH GREAT RESTAURANTS, PARKS AND PLENTY OF FUN TO BE HAD.

Excellent program overall. The faculty and staff are so wonderful and really care about students wellbeing. The town has become sketchier over the years but is still a wonderful place to live and the surrounding hiking areas like Upper Bridewell Park are fantastic.

Degree: Psychology
Graduation Year: 2017

Pros: I can research my own interests in the area of psychology. It is less about coursework and more about teaching and researching. It will prepare one for PhD programs and teaching. Cons: Loans, loans, and more loans. Unlike other research based grad programs, the grants, stipends, and etc are almost non-existent, which forces me to work and take loans to pursue my education.

The faculty in the physical anthropology department are wonderful. They go out of their way to provide support and encouragement. The program itself is challenging and fulfilling. My only complaint is that there is no financial support from the school in terms of tuition waivers or stipends.

Degree: Public Administration
Graduation Year: 2017

The MPA program gives me an opportunity not only to apply my previous professional experience in the military but also to pursue a career in autism research. It does not afford the versatility of other graduate programs, like an MBA, but I believe that the MPA program allows me to be in a position to make social changes.
