Student & Graduate Reviews

Degree: Public Policy
Graduation Year: 2015

On the plus-side, this is a good, well-respected, quantitatively-rigorous program. Most graduates have employed upon graduation or seek further education. On the negative-side, while lectures are taught by faculty, recitations and labs are often taught by graduate assistants.

Expensive and do not keep promises, bait and switch for graduate school

No only are the programs some of the top in the world, the professors are some of the greatest educators. It is hard to find a research university that also has such a strong focus on the education and future of its students. Carnegie Mellon is one of the few.

Degree: Biomedical Engineering
Graduation Year: 2018

CMU is predominantly known for it's engineering, whether it is mechanical, electrical, computer science or biomedical. I have the fortunate pleasure of working closely with mechanical engineering departments along with my biomedical engineering focus. The professors and faculty of the entirety of the campus are extremely welcoming, kind, understanding and overall simply care about the student's learning potential as well as his or her well-being, something that is not truly tried and practice at other schools, at least during my undergraduate career at a different university. I'd highly recommend this school to anyone wanting to make a lasting impact in a given society as well as grow close with not only your peers, but also faculty members whilst excelling in your given field, whether it is the College of Engineering or Tepper School of Business.

I am very pleased with the networking opportunities that CMU's Heinz College has and the collaboration that is always available. Everyone within the department is always very helpful. The coursework can be difficult at the beginning, but professors are always eager to help and they want you succeed.

Degree: Mechanical Engineering
Graduation Year: 2020

The program is tough, but you definitely learn a lot! The research here is top notch, and there are a lot of opportunities to distinguish yourself in your field. The mechanical engineering department is also spread out over a really large variety of subdisciplines, which is awesome!

Definitely a top program (if not the top). If you are passionate about energy, committed, smart, and willing to make a change, this program is for you. It will give the tools you need in an 'Energy' world, and you get the chance to learn from the bests.
