"I was in the energy, environmental, and chemical engineering program. The professors are trying to take general chemical engineering courses and add in environmental or energy aspects. Some classes have done a better job of this while others even thought their description talks about the environmental side it has very little to do with it. Overall though I think this is a great program that is only getting better!"

"Even though St. Louis is a great city with lots of things to do, it is also very dangerous and we walk around scared that we are going to get robbed. In terms of the program itself, it is a very good program, high quality one, but it is definitely not a professional masters program, as described. It's a great school for researchers."

"Professors more interested in their own work than helping students. Program not designed to help students to maximize success, but to maximize suffering."

"Pros: The chance to jump right into dissertation research with very little extra didactic coursework. Cons: The TA experience is very much scripted; for someone who would like to teach after grad school, it can be tricky to gain independent teaching experience."

"The graduate program is excellent, and has a very competitive stipend along with an incredibly low cost of living in the area. St. Louis is a great city, and has a huge variety of activities and restaurants. Everyone in the department is excited about their science, and the professors who teach classes are enthusiastic about their students and their success. There is no competition between students in the form of climbing above others so that you can do better, so everyone is willing to help out their peers. One drawback is that there is a TAing requirement of four semesters, but it is only about 10-20 hours a week so is not a huge burden. Overall, this is a fantastic program and I would highly recommend it."

"My experience during my graduate program at WashU has, so far, been a good experience. The technical classes I have taken have been interesting and definitely enhanced my knowledge within my discipline (mechanical engineering). The professors are intelligent and certainly competent within their field, but sometimes their delivery of the material in a way that is thoroughly internalized by the student can sometimes be lacking. My peers have been good to work and learn with, and the campus is a beautiful part of the city to come to when I have classes. I look forward to taking additional classes in subjects that interest me as I complete my graduate program at WashU."

"Overall I thought it was a great value. There were a few professors who I did not think were the best at teaching, but that's true of any unniversity. The student body was diverse and extremely smart!"

"For such a respected program, it really isn't terribly stressful, and there are lots of extracurricular and social opportunities in addition to countless ways to explore what path in medicine you wish to take. The professors and other guest lecturers are very impressive."

"This is a wonderful program in which most professors have open doors and are very accessible and easy to speak with. They are there to teach, and work quite hard to make sure the learning environment is supportive and collaborative. They emphasize working in groups and creating a strong foundation in theory and intervention training. My peers are amazing individuals who all work hard and have many similar goals and personality traits that go hand in hand with the profession of OT."

"I think Washington University has a great Occupational Therapy program. The faculty are very knowledgeable on the topics and are easy to approach. The class is large enough that you get a wide variety of different students and opinions, but small enough that you develop a good relationship with everyone."

"I think I am blessed to be part of the Washington University Occupational Therapy program! Pros: excellent faculty that really know their topics, useful assignments that let us get hands-on experience, focus on an evidence-based approach, combined larger class and smaller group discussions, opportunities to understand research through participation in research labs Cons: many large-group lectures"
