  • Degree: Social Work
"I graduated from Florida Atlantic University in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Social Work. I will begin FAU's Advanced Standing MSW program in May. I believe FAU's BSW program prepared me for generalist practice in the world of Social Work. Since I would like to work as a substance abuse counselor, I am now pursuing a Master's degree. From my experience over the last year and a half, FAU has a top notch program. The faculty is fantastic and genuinely cares. They are very willing to help and want students to succeed. There will always be a few who don't want to do the work and complain about everything, but if you work hard and genuinely want to learn, you will have a great experience. I believe the curriculum will give students what they need for generalist practice. Besides having excellent professors, my advisors were also very helpful in making sure I was taking the right courses to graduate on time. The field placement my last semester was challenging and gave me valuable hands-on case management experience. Every effort is made to find students field placements that are a good fit. I would highly recommend FAU to anyone who wants to become a social worker. One of my former professors is now heading up the department. She has a tremendous amount of energy and is working hard to push the school to the next level. Since FAU is a state school, tuition is reasonable and won't set you back like a private school, plus I believe you will get a better education at FAU."

  • Degree: Healthcare Administration
"I am pursuing a Master degree in Health Administration through an executive master program. Classes meet on weekends (Saturday and Sunday)every three weeks, and we have group meetings every other week, and intensive online communications among students and with faculty. Beyond the diversity of students enrolled in this program, what I've found most helpful is how FAU's staff made me feel welcome by treating me as an individual, not as a number, and by addressing my individual objectives and needs. I have been working in the health care field for the past four years, and this program at FAU definitely will help me advance in this field by preparing me for higher positions including management. From the start I've felt this program's staff took and interest in what I am currently doing and in linking what the program offers to my personal objectives for advancement in my career. This is critically important in this day and age of digital communications where more often than not you communicate with machines. Beyond this, I've found the subject matter of my classes quite practical, something I can relate to my current job and the field of health care. I would definitely recommend FAU and this specific program to others. Well done indeed FAU! I am looking forward to completing this program and earning my Master's degree."

"FAU's Master of Tax program has provided me the tools I will need to have a successful career. The professors are very knowledgeable and really want to help you succeed. Through networking on campus I secured an offer from a Big 4 accounting firm. FAU's graduate program is also very affordable compared to other universities in FL."

  • Degree: Philosophy
"Florida Atlantic Univeristy has been a wonderful platform for my academic goals, specifically the philosophy department, which has the most incredible professors!!! However, as an institution I would say the school is not quite as organized as I had hoped, and also that the different departments don't seem to communicate with each other, which makes multiple degrees or minors in different departments difficult."

  • Degree: Elementary Education
"I graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2015 with a degree in Elementary Education. I transferred from another school that I was not pleased with. FAU offers a smaller, beautiful campus with helpful professors, advisors, and staff. The school has several campuses and is easy to communicate with. I was recently accepted to their graduate school in their Speech-Language Pathology Program and I couldn't be more excited. I know that FAU's smaller program will give me the experience and attention I need to succeed in this field. I highly recommend this university to students who want the traditional college experience, but may feel overwhelmed by the larger and more popular Florida universities."

"I attended the Harriet Wilkes Honors college. I would recommend this school, the professors are wonderful. The classes are small and the other students are very helpful. Because it is such a small school, all the student know each other and it really feels like a community."

  • Degree: Liberal Studies
"The Comparative Studies Ph.D. program at Florida Atlantic University provides an organizational forum that fosters camaraderie and research collaboration among students in all three tracks of the Ph.D. in Comparative Studies Program: Literatures, Literacies and Linguistics. Primary areas of strength for this broadly based program include studies of literature and migration, rhetoric and composition, U.S. multiethnic literatures, early modern literatures, gender, sexuality and embodiment in literature, modernity and postmodernity in literature, space and place in literature, and postcolonial literature and culture. The curriculum also draws from many disciplines in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. With accomplished faculty and Eminent Scholars, the program offers an innovative, rigorous, yet flexible course of study. Each year the most qualified candidates are offered excellent teaching and research fellowships. The faculty, students and staff collaborate in constructing an energetic, productive and pleasurable learning community."

  • Degree: Healthcare Administration
"I attended Florida Atlantic University as a healthcare administration major which is in the college of business. The healthcare administration courses are tedious but informative. If you are able to attend the courses on campus I would definitely recommend doing so if you have no experience in the healthcare administration field. Taking online courses for this major with no experience will not prepare you for the real world of healthcare admin. As part of the curriculum, students must complete a practicum, meaning for that semester you will be interning for a minimum of 9 hours per week (12 for the summer) in a healthcare administrative field of your choice. It is your responsibility to look for the site and it must be approved by your professor. Once you have obtained a practicum site, you will attend class once or twice a week depending on the semester and professor. In the classroom, you will be completing research papers, presenting reports and turning in current events articles. The internship preceptor will be completing weekly reports about your performance and duties performed. These weekly reports are to be handed in at the beginning of your class. Honestly I think that this is the best part of the program, all of the information you have been studying, writing papers, and completing group projects for will all be put to practice during this practicum."

"I attended Florida Atlantic University for my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and this summer I will be returning as a Graduate student to work on my Master's degree in Educational Psychology. Returning to FAU for Grad school required no second thought- I knew that I could rely on FAU to provide the same level of stellar education I received in my undergrad time. FAU has an incredible variety of dedicated, and intelligent professors, true professionals who love their chosen field of research (cognitive, social, developmental psychologists), and their craft as teachers. The FAU professors that I had the pleasure of learning and working with inspired me to pursue a career path in Educational Psychology. Their passion, motivation, and encouragement serve to fortify the very spinal fabric that allows FAU to continue to excel in the world of higher education. FAU is spectacular if you are looking for a challenge, to achieve individual and career growth, and for an overall amazing college experience."

"Studying at the Wilkes Honors College at FAU provided me with many resources as well as the required mentorship needed for me to reach my career goals. I was able to finish my thesis in under four years and explore other interests throughout my undergraduate career due to the flexibility of my coursework. Although I was a biochemistry major, I worked with my mathematics professor, and wrote my 50-page thesis combining my knowledge of human biology and linear algebra. In addition, I had full access to all the amenities at Florida Atlantic University's campus in Boca Raton and commuted to perform in the Symphony Orchestra. The small campus allowed me to get to know my professors and eventually work with teachers on various projects. Therefore, I never felt as if I was just another face in the crowd. This close-knit community allowed me to delve into my interests and be active in both the arts and sciences."

"Florida Atlantic University is one of the best university's in South Florida, especially for those who want to stay in the Palm Beach County area. It can be challenging to find the help you need sometimes but you have to keep asking and eventually you'll find someone who can provide the answers you are looking for. There are plenty of activities, clubs, organizations and events to attend. The rec center has awesome gym equipment and pool to get a few laps in. Parking at the University can be a nightmare so definitely get to campus a minimum of 30 minutes before class begins."

"Great university. The staff and professors are amazing. Very passionate and knowledgeable. Parking isn't too bad, classes are scheduled later in the day for those who work full-time. They have GTAs, but I do not recommended them. Not a livable wage unfortunately, though the experience is good for your resume."

"The MFA in Creative Writing at Florida Atlantic University has helped me further myself as a fiction writer more than I thought possible. I've received new perspectives on my writing from my professors and peers alike, pushing what I thought I knew about craft and form. As an FAU graduate student, I've been taking advantage of the numerous opportunities available to me to grow professionally, working as a graduate teaching assistant and as the Associate Editor for Swamp Ape Review, the FAU MFA literary magazine. With the help of funding from FAU's Graduate and Professional Student Association, I've also had the opportunity to travel to the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Conference in Washington D. C. this year to represent Swamp Ape Review and the MFA at FAU. I highly recommend this program to any writer looking to improve his craft, become part of a writing community, and further his professional experience in the English field."

The Jupiter campus, for example, is nestled next to the Scripps Research Institute and the Max Planck Institute for Neuroscience, creating a great opportunity for networking and collaboration. The Wilkes Honors College is also on the Jupiter campus, giving talented undergraduates access to research with expectations that push their development. I enjoy it here."

"Florida Atlantic University is an amazing university located in Boca Raton, FL. I enrolled at FAU three years ago with a plan to major in Biological Sciences. Throughout my time as a premed student, I have gained a vast array of knowledge in many subjects that I believe will help me excel in graduate school. The professors at FAU are stellar and they are always happy to help each individual student. FAU has a beautiful campus with all the amenities you could ask for. They have a huge food court, a brand new gym, and a great student union. As far as safety is concerned, you will never feel unsafe at FAU. The library is one of the best parts of the University. Aside from the enormous collection of books, it offers study rooms and even multiple computer labs. Sports wise FAU is also great; they just built a brand new football stadium and they offer more sports than I can count. To sum up, FAU is really a wonderful university and I am excited to continue my education here as I move on to graduate school."
